Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

Not before time.

I cannot think of a single reason why I and all the other motorists who have valid Road Tax, MOT (if required) and insurance should pay when an estimated 1,000,000 cars on the road today do not.

Clamp ‘em! After two weeks crush ‘em!

I reckon you should be able to ring the DVLA and report the tax dodgers ,maybe claim a reward.I could name a couple very near my house!

There are usually a fair few around here too. I have renewed my road tax online at the weekend, the disc arrived today, it only took me 2 minutes and I didn't have to drag my insurance and MOT details into town..:D

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

the whole we'll crush ur car is barely true

they'll only do that after no contact with the person for 6 months or sommet

so it'll b most likely cars that are worth less than the fine

Neil 22-08-2006 19:39

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

The fine should be 10 times the amount of road tax the owner has not paid or £1000 which ever is greatest.

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

i agree with neil you should be fined more then maybe these tax dodgers will get there usually unroad worthy cars off the roads

entwisi 22-08-2006 19:51

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

Same for no insurance, get an average quote from half a dozen places and the fine should be 10 x(minimum, 20x for second offence etc) that .

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

usually people who dont have tax/insurance/mot dont have a licence to drive but it doesnt seem to stop them

in my book entwi no insurance is FAR more serious than no road tax-these people should get 6 months minimum.

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

Just as a point that I did mention before, we all know that we have had a large influx of Polish and lithuanian workers, most of whom seem to have brought their own cars over. I asked teh Police a while back what th elaws were regarding them. Basically after 6 months in this country the car HAS to be registered, Taxed and Insured in this country. Also after 12 months the driver has to apply for a UK driving license which may mean taking a test over here.

What worriesd me is that I see cars here that have been around far more than 6 months yet teh police don't seem to be checking any of the above actually happens, I dread to think what would happen if there was an accident where one of them was at fault.

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

The authorities must have an idea who has been here long enough to have to go through the procedures that Entwisi mentioned. If they dont go after them then the police the driver and the authorities are to blame if something goes wrong. Should these cars not be MOT'd in a certain time frame to show that the are up to the standard of British cars?

I take it, the old Guinness labels are not valid any more.

entwisi 23-08-2006 13:07

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

Sorry, spuggie, I forgot to mention MOT'd as well

Although as part of registration they would be checked by a more thorough test than an MOT.

I wonder if we could claim negligence against plod if it was proven that a driver was here over the legal limit and that plod had undertaken no checks

Re: DVLA wheel clampers are around...

This is the thing that maddens me about fraudsters/dodgers - is the effect it has on genuine law abbiders, the cost of insurance, the cost of tax, the cost of even learning to drive is expensive & not easy to pass - yet some joyriders will take liberties. Genuine folk always has to prove themselves yet the dodgey beggars get off scot free!! So think its a good thing that least someone is acting on beating the dodgers!
