Re: Doorstep sellers cant read!

Npower are a set of theiving low down scumbags

i switched to them because they prommised to remove the pre payment meter that was in my house

they didnt do this as prommised and i could never get through to anyone to sort it out so i switched back to british gas for my electricity

because i dared to leave them a few months later i got a letter demanding £190 ( about) that i apparently owed them , again i rang to sort this out but again i could never get through to anyone

i eventualy got a solicitors letter demanding the money so i rang their solicitor who informed me i was going to be taken to court to which i pointed out to them that i was on a pre payment meter which means that i cant owe money as i pay upfront for electricity or i dont get any

they were adament that i owed the money and couldnt grasp the concept of pre payment even when i said its just the same as having a pay as you go mobile

the conversation ended when i wished them good luck at court because the judges arnt as thick as they obviously were and i would win teh case and would be expecting costs for going :)

My daughter works for Scottish Power/MANWEB and she is of the opinion that all gas/electricity salesmen, including their own, should be shot! She gets very angry at the mess they leave some people in by their underhand sales tactics and the way they prey on the elderly.

My own mother was a case in point. When she was nearly 90 one of my brothers went through her accounts with her and found she had been paying both British Gas and NORWEB for her electricity for over a year. She was sure she hadn't signed up to change her account. She wasn't senile or suffering from dementia, nothing like that, but she hadn't quite grasped that you could now buy electricity from the Gas Board or gas from the Electric Board etc. Presumably some rogue had told her she had to sign for her electricity and so she did.

She got her money back, in the end, but it took several phone calls and a lot of hassle.

You don't really prepay with them though. They set the meter to deduct money at a rate that should cover the cost of electricity and the standing charge. Sometimes they change the rate up or down so you cover the costs. That is how it worked last time I had one anyway.
Do you still stick the little paper tickets in them?

nah they did away with those old meters because people were stickinga loop of wire in the slot to get free electricity lol

all card meters are set at a higher rate so you pay more than people without pre pay meters , if you dont put money in you dont get electricity period infact when gas meters run out of money and your NOT using any gas even if you switch teh gas off withthe lever the meter will still clock back money on the clock

My mum didn't have a pre-payment meter. She was paying by Direct Debit to both MANWEB and British Gas. Because it was D D she wasn't aware of the amount she was paying as of course, unlike a Standing Order, you don't have to do anything to alter the payments.

My nephew worked briefly for Kirby and I can confirm that they were taught some pretty nasty tricks to get people to sign up for ridiculously expensive vacuum cleaners.
