This is a really heartrending thread and I've been wondering if I should tell my tale or not...........anyway, here we go.

A few days after my second husband died I was thinking about ending it all as I felt that I couldn't cope. My daughter, about 12 years old, was at her wits end with me. Understandable at the time but I couldn't seem to get my head around anything.

Bless her, she rang my friend, who turned up within minutes. She washed the pots, my main problem that evening, as I couldn't manage to sort it for myself, and then said she needed to use the phone.

I knew she understood how bad I was and presumed she was about to call the doctor. I had a screaming fit, Shirley ignored me, rang her husband and asked him to record Dallas!!

I've always thanked her for it as it brought me round. If someone as daft as her could live, so could I!!

Yeh, lovely thought this Shadey .. ya' got a heart after all... only kidding, honest. :D

I pondered a while with regard to this and as I am very independent and stubborn always find it terribly difficult to accept help of any kind, however, the most generous and life changing action that happened to me was through my brother.

When I was 39, I had a liaison with my kitchen floor and broke my hip quite badly, should have healed but never did. Over the next 3 years the joint necrosed and was virtually a cripple, in loads of pain and with a 3 year still wearing nappies !

The specialist at Blackburn refused to replace as considered too young at 42 and would have to wait 10 years, by which time I would have been in a wheelchair, so went back to my doctor and through a private consultation landed up at Wrightington. He was astounded that the consultant at Blackburn wished to shave some more off the bone and said that only a hip replacement would be of any use. He informed me that the waiting was 10 months on the NHS, but privately with a fortnight.

My brother, without hesitation, said "I'll pay for that" .. done and dusted within 10 days. Never looked back and been told will last for ever. A month after was back on the Amateur Stage (Doug will love this) playing and dancing the part of Morgan le Fey... Yes, that was my lifesaver.
