Catch the pigeon.
Trolling back today with my suntan cream, from the shopping experience that is Accrington’s Arndale Center, I happened to look heaven wards.
Imagine my surprise as I saw a metal beam across the entrance from Broadway covered in barbed spikes. Fair enough. It will be to stop those flying rodents, pigeons, from plopping on our heads as we head to see what’s going cheap in the Sale at Ethel Austin’s. However, suspended underneath the beam, dangling from a bit of wire, is a bird. My first thought was that it had hung itself, because it could no longer perch where it wanted. It’s about the size of a pigeon, and has its wings outstretched as if in flight, but it is motionless. I thought it may be some sort of decoy, like they use when hunting for ducks. But wouldn’t that more likely attract other pigeons, who if they find it very attractive may even try to mate with it? It was only later on reflection, that I thought it might be some sort of pigeon hating hawk, but since I didn’t get a look at its little face and beak I’m unsure. So the next time you are out shopping take a look. Perhaps it’s always been there, and I’ve been in too much of a hurry to thumb through Hello in Smith’s that I haven’t noticed. So which is it? Decoy, pigeon scaring hawk, or suicide? |
Re: Catch the pigeon.
i think we should lauch an imidiate enquiery into this matter , what appears to be a suicide or accident may indeed actualy be an assasination ;)

Re: Catch the pigeon.
A plastic hawk. Even a bird brain mst realise that there is something seriously wrong with it just hanging there. Its like a scare crow which works for a while but then accepted as something to sit on. :D

Re: Catch the pigeon.
I thought this 'bird' was the sculpture erected to replace the Arndale clock.

Re: Catch the pigeon.
Suntan cream? Wouldn't rust remover be more appropriate for this summer?

Re: Catch the pigeon.
I aint that rusty just yet though I would rather have rain than get fried in the sun. Maybe its time they got a few more plastic hawks in Accy for the flying rats. Would give some councillors something to do in their spare time. :D

Bye bye rain, and hello scorching sun for me soon.;) |
Re: Catch the pigeon.
Whilst searching to see if there are actual models of bird pigeon scarers, I came across this.
If they had hung this from the rafters, as well as keeping pigeons away, it would have helped balance out Accy's woeful lack of public statues. http://www.clarratts.com/Content/products.asp |
Re: Catch the pigeon.
It could be dressed in an AccyStanley strip!

Re: Catch the pigeon.
Yesterday when I was in town a little breeze was catching one of those birds and it actually did move and almost for a fleeting moment looked like a hawk hovering - well, almost, and only for a very fleeting moment.

Re: Catch the pigeon.
Be bettr of with the real thing. An arial dogfight between a hawk and the local flying rats would be a nice little entertainment earner fore the town. :D
