blue comedians
Reference to blue commedians in the Charlie Williams thread reminded me of something on holiday.
We were at a well known camp site in the Morecambe Bay area (having given up to farmer's fields) and there's a club house with entertainment each evening. There is a family bar where children of all ages are welcome and where they have kiddies games and wonderful drinks such a "supaslush" and hot dogs. 4 evenings a week there is a cabaret in this room. Some are very much geared to the youngsters whilst others appeal to everyone. One evening there was a comedian and after 3 'jokes' we walked out. I went to see the duty manager nad asked if it was supposed to be family entertainment in tht room every night and was told yes so I pointed out the sort of jokes he was telling. By this time lots of families with young children had left. He hadn't been 'vetted' before being engaged and they had no idea what his material was like! He isn't going to be invited back unless he has a different act. I wonder how many parents had left their kids in there whilst they went to the adult bar? |
Re: blue comedians
A very scary thought that. If there is to be entertainment for kids then tose hired for that need to be vetted completely especially as there are children there. Ok the might here stuff like it or close to it outside but to have an adult do it on stage in front of them is a no no. Did the person or persons doing the hiring cop a pile of grief from management for this to put it lightly "bungle?"

Re: blue comedians
Not sure about that but there was somebody with a very miserable look on his face for days afterwards!

Maybe they need to rethink what wholesome entertainment actually is. Some of the 'family games' left a lot to be desired but that comedian just went way too far.

Re: blue comedians
People that know me certainly know that I'm no prude, as can be seen from when I started a thread about a Carry On film, classified as being suitable for over fourteens, being shown on a Sunday afternoon.
I certainly don't think a 'blue' comedian is suitable family entertainment. There's a time and place for everything, and this certainly wasn't the place. |
Re: blue comedians
I wonder why it is called 'blue' humour?

Re: blue comedians
Was it not from "dirty old mens" hang outs?
