Amusement Arcade

We all go on about the amount of pound shops in Accrington, but i've just notice that there is another amusement arcade (Quicksilver) opening on broadway. It's just next to Ladbrooks. I make that 4 now in the centre alone.

1. Winners on Blackburn Rd (near corner of Church St).

2. Dutton St (Blue something).

3. Union St (opposite Farmfoods)

4. Quicksilver on Broadway.

Is there any need really. Can the council's planning department not see that this isn't what Accrington needs?

It always suprises me at the amount of people you see going in.

I'd rather drop my money down the drain, but that's probably my Methodist up bringing, or the fact that I know with gambling there's only ever one winner.

Maybe Accy should have made a pitch for the first Super Casino; sod the Dome, sod Blackpool - we could have had Las Vagas in Accy. We could have had it stuck on top of the Coppice; I'm sure Gayle could have got us a grant.

Right next to the bookies though? Is that so that if they've got any money left, they won't have far to walk before they loose the rest. What's next? A brothel where Poundco used to be (there's a thought)?

At one time you only ever got the thngs in Blackpool and such like on the pier. I thought they were a bit of fun on holiday but can't see the appeal day in day out. Surely people must realise they are chucking money away?

It's a good job I put my name into the search feature every now and then or I'd miss all these wonderful instances of you taking my name in vain.

Anyway, far better for the top of the coppice would be a huge £ sign - to reflect the nature of all the town centre shops.

I was just thinking to myself, as I walked up Union St this afternoon, how depressing it is that the things which thrive in our town are the cheap shops and the arcades and there are all those other empty shops where people have opened something and then given up to it. Do so many Accy dwellers gamble away all their money in the arcades so all they can afford to buy is something from a pound shop??
