Any birdwatchers out there?

My colleague at work has seen a very odd "bird" in his garden this morning;well he thinks it was a bird.It was very small, only maybe 2 inches in length and was hovering in the way that hummingbirds do and collecting nectar from his plants. He insists it wasn't a dragonfly or anything like that and it seemed to have a beak or maybe a proboscis like a butterfly. He also thinks he heard something about these creatures on Radio 5 sometime this week;any ideas anyone?

Oh, that'd be Tinkerbelle, she likes to hover and then goes in for the prey with her probiscus.... :D

:D :D :D I don't
know where you live love, but do you know, I was walking home from the
pub the other night, and things being as they are at my age, I got caught
short, could it have been part of my anatomy you saw?
If so please forgive me for causing any distress. :D :D :D .
On the other hand it could be the "Lesser Spotted Gogwitt" very very rare
they are. :D :D :D

There's a hummingbird dragonfly or is that a dragonfly hummingbird? It's not a hummingbird but hovers like one. Could it have been one of those?

The only reason less new what you were on about was he has the same moths in his wallet and only lets them out once a year

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who knows what I'm talking about so it's a relief when it occasionally makes sense to somebody else. :D

No, Willow I wouldn't go so far as to say you were talking sense, but I do like to solve mysterys and the challange of discovering what you actually meant was irressitable!:)

And today isn't the day so it must be your round!

Katex you are quite correct, googling is my second most favorite pastime, though in this case I already had a link to similar pages in my bookmarks because a few months ago I had seen a scarlet coloured moth/butterfly fluttering by and had tried to find out what it was, so far all my googling has been in vain I have not been able to trace it, (Mick has decided it was a drink affected hallucination and I'm inclined to believe him as I was walking towards the pub at the time!).

The last moth in Less' wallet was a dead one. It was found to have chocked to death on a white fiver! :D

Many thanks Less and Willow;I have read the link to the Hummingbird Hawk Moth and I reckon that's it! I have printed it off and will show my mate at work tomorrow;he will be mighty relieved as he was doubting his sanity and his eye sight!
