Got to say - can't see the logic myself.

Re: Hospital Closure

Neither can I. In return, Burnley are going to be the centre for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This means that any high risk pregnant women will eventually go to Burnley along with the Neonatal Intensive Care facilities. This roughly translates that local women who would normally go to Blackburn to deliver will eventually go to Burnley instead unless they have a problem free pregnancy. Therefore any woman with a high risk condition, pre-eclampsia, diabetes, placenta praevia etc will go to Burnley. Women who have had previous C Sections, premature births or other complications will also go there. It appears that there may be more local birth centres set up to handle the normal pregnancies. These changes may take a couple of years to implement. Of course, if we still had Accy Vic, Bramley Meade and Bull Hill maternity units, the changes could be implemented sooner and at less expense. Remember that these units were closed in order to save money........Looks like it's come full circle.

I was just thinking that chav - you trying to read minds? Its not just that though what about the people who live in nelson and colne - they will have to travel to Blackburn as well wont they? I'm lucky where i live i live right on the boundary so whenever i needed to be took away in an ambulance sometimes the ambulance men asked me which one i wanted to go to! Sometimes Burnley sometimes blackburn. Even with mum sometimes she was took to burnley and a couple of times she was took to blackburn. This going over to Blackburn is this because blackburn is a new hospital and so has all new stuff? I know from experience having to wait at A&E for a few hours how is blackburn going to cope with all the emergencies from rossendale, hyndburn, burnley, nelson, colne, blackburn and darwen etc? If ive missed a name of your town out sorry!

That is pointed out in the news story. Typical Labour, SAVE MONEY, NOT LIVES. Think of all the inheritence tax they could now get.

As I have already remarked on a previous NHS thread......it does not matter which party is in office, the results will be the same.

So a pregnant women in Burnley who dials 999 will be taken to Blackburn and then transferred back to Burnley if she has problems with her pregnancy.

It amuses me how Labour have tried to devolve/decentralise power to Scotland and yet they're trying to do the exact opposite when it comes to NHS/Police

this is going to back fire immensly

and the govt will still spin and say we cannot see the correlation for the deaths and the closure of burnley a&e

Re: Hospital Closure

They won't cope, or maybe they will, as most won't bother to go. The thought of traveling then waiting puts many off getting attention thats needed.

One of the best things we had here and will lose when nuneaton and coventry hospitals do the same as these two is the out of hours doctor facility. It's a non emergency doctor for people in pain with things that could possibly be serious. for example, my left foot and leg went numb, I phoned this doctor facility atached to A&E for advice what to do, do I go A&E or do I go to my doc. They were concerned and asked me to go over so they could check it wasn't serious. Turned out ity was a trapped nerve and i went home, no A&E staff time wasted and I was in and out in 15 mins.
This is being scraped which I think is a daft idea, I think every hospital should have one.

Re: Hospital Closure

My sister lives in Kidderminster. When I visited in 2004, she showed me the lovely new hospital there. Only one problem. After the facility was built, the government apparently decided it couldn't afford to staff it with doctors. Now the entire place is operated by nurse practitioners and RN's. If you have a real emergency, such as a heart attack, you have to go all the way to Worcester.

When I heard this news 2 thoughts sprung to mind:-

1. not very good for environment as people will have to travel further

2. New Labour are really Conservatives - thought this for a while and this just confirms it - not an ounce of socialism in them

Wont affect me as living in Accy Burnley and Blackburn are similar distances but feel sorry for those living in Nelson & Colne

May i just point out that a lady thet is pregnant is not really an emergency!!!

They are told to have means of transport to get to the Hospital when they got to Anti-Natal, however the option of a "FREE" white (now mostly Yellow) taxi ride does seem to be the favourite option. If a lady rings the delevery suite they will be told to come in if the staff think it is needed but to use OWN transport.

Yes it will make the job of the crews a lot more busy between the two hospitals

Re: Hospital Closure

Any hospital loosing any service is a disgrace, if a town as large as Burnley can loose the most essential of services 'accident and emergency', what chance has any other town or villiage of keeping theirs,
in my humble opinion it stinks how could we afford these services that have been in place since the hospitals were built? As grandad used to say,"if health was a market place, non but the rich would live, and non but the poor would die"
