Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
We go camping at least 3 times a year. We've toured Sicily on a scooter with a tent on the back and have been round most of Italy and Croatia and France in a tent.
Also camped in Mongolia, but that's cos they all live in tents there. Camping is GREAT. You're really in touch with nature and it's so relaxing. After a camping holiday I always feel much more reposed than if I'd been in a hotel. In Britain, obviously the weather needs to be good to enjoy it, but you can hit lucky. Camping gives you the opportunity to see places you otherwise might not be able to afford to see (at least that was certainly my case as a student, we always camped, wouldn't have been able to go on hols otherwise). Also, campsites always seem to be in better spots than hotels - often right on the beach or lakeside. Check out the internet for good campsites around the world. If you fancy camping in Europe but don't want to haul all the stuff over on the plane and don't fancy driving, you can contact Eurocamp. they have all the equipment - tent and everything already on-site, you just have to turn up. For camping in the UK, check out Maggiolina.it - they are tents that open on top of your car, dryer and warmer and more comfy - but they are more expensive than normal tents of course. Let me know if you need more info - I'M A BIG CAMPING FAN!! |
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
i Love camping! Have not done it for a few years but i would love to do it again sometime. I think everyone should do it at least once in there life. Back to nature and all that! lol!

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
In Croatia the majority of camps are naturist camps - so are the beaches - that's really back to nature for you, Diz!!
Bit too much for us shy Brits, though maybe? |
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
Sounds like the entire country is one big natiurist camp...I've just had an idea for OANTOF (III), a naturist version set in Croatia.....

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
Cheers Jo :)
I have thoughts of driving to France again and camping there. But for a first trip next year (and with no stuff I gotta plan early) was thinking somewhere in the UK Obviously the weather.. But i was kinda guessing that I could decide on the holiday and then book a campsite at the last minute when I know the weather is good. Kids are off for 6 weeks.. I can take my hilidays when I want wiyh short notice so... |
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
Usually don't have to book at campsites just for a tent, and sometimes they dont take bookings even if you ask - just have to turn up.
|
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
And if you leave early enough in the morning, you don't have to pay either...
|
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
camping is great harry! and you don't have to plan at all.. we have been camping a few times in the last couple of months, the first time we just thought lets go camping, we had no equipment or anything and that night found ourselves in a field in a tent in the lakes... absolutely great, nothing like last minute decision holidays (thats why I'm writing this from a virgin megastore internet cafe in london!)

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
Hello Roy....where's the Campsite in London? You got your tent up in Hyde Park? back of Buck House? Tony Blairs back garden.....let us into the secret, please!

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
Used to do a lot of camping when i was younger in the lakes (backbarrow)near the dolly blue works there was a lot of wild deer there
and in the new forrest that was great all the wild ponys wondering round |
Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
;D Haven't been camping for years, but used to really enjoy it as a kid, never really took much planning as I remember. Went recently to the lakes for a couple of days, and the weather was foul (it was february) so we rang one of those caravan parks and stayed in a mobile home for a couple of nights which was quite comfy and not too expensive.

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
If you are taking kids and especially if it's for the first time. Try the Haven holiday parks. they have tented areas and the fees include access to all the parks facilities and attractions. At least that way the kids should get used to camping without getting too bored.

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?

Re: Camping.. Anyone done it?
He didn't have a stag night like anybody else. He went on a week long camping trip with his 2 best men.
I have enjoyed it when we have been to the lakes and the new Forest was Brilliant. But think I'm a bit to old now for all that discomfort. Rather hire a caravan these days. |
