I think the salt thing dates or more correctly originate out of the bible storey of the Pillars of Salt. The don’t look back thingy. Anyway if you spill salt and you don’t homage the fact by throwing over your shoulder (i.e. not looking back) you’ll get bad luck.

Here's the tit.

I wouldn't be so rude as to point out the tat.;)

That's what I call a good looking Tit, pity it isn't a pair. You can't beat a beautiful pair of tits on a bird table all fluffed up and perky like. :D ;)

i'm not that superstitious but i do sometimes think bad things will happen if i sin - i'm a beleiver of sorts of karma - but then sometimes i think am i doin bad karma or bringing karma to someone who's done bad things

i do worry too when i go to work if i dont get a goodbye kiss from my daughter.

When I see a single magpie I say, "Good morning Mr Magpie. How's your wife?" My daughter salutes them. We're as daft as each other.

The salt thing is because it was so precious, in Roman times part of a soldier's pay was in salt - salary. The devil stands behind you if you spill any of this precious stuff so you throw a bit over your shoulder and into his eyes to make him run off. I don't know what he's supposed to do to you if he stays.

Touching wood has something to do with the Spirit of the earth living in trees but I'm a bit vague on that one. I still touch wood though.

Who says, "Bless you", when somebody sneezes? I do. I think it goes back to the days of the Plague, which started with sneezing.

Cutting your nails on Sunday and Friday. My Nana would throw a wobblie when we were kids if we even thought of doing so.

I still can't bring myself to do it even now.

as I was leaving my first real girlfriends house I would always jump over the gate (pathetic, showing off) but sometimes one of her parents would show me to the door and wave me off.. I would open and close the gate and say my goodbyes.. but would wait till they closed the door then jump into the garden and back over the gate!.. wierd but I thought it would bring bad luck if I didn't

I also think superstitions are a load of mumbo-jumbo.

Strangely though I still knock on wood, or tap my head if I ain't got no wood, when I don't want to jinx myself.

Looks like I'm a total hypocrite, or is the human nature so fragile that we need these scientifically unproven rituals in our lives to survive?

Where did they originate from?

If you do them, will they perhaps turn into one of those phobias were you have to turn round six times and leave the house backwards, because if you don't you think diaster is waiting round the corner?

What little superstitions do you always do?

I am an Atheist too.

I walk under ladders and ignore all this other stuff.

The explanantion is emotion and conditioning.
