Would you bare all on tv?

I've just spent a whole rare evening sprawled in front of the telly.

I watched three programmes in a row were people laid bare their innermost secrets, and in some cases their actual bare nakedness.

First of all there was touchy feely posh gels Trinny and Susannah. This time not only dressing people, but also sorting out a couple's marrital relationship.

It sounds appalling, but parts of it were quite moving. Here was a married couple with a nineteen year age difference, as well as a seven inch difference in height, he being the older and smaller, and both the parents of two autistic children.

Whilst sorting out their wardrobes, the wife admitted on camera that she had been unfaithful in the last three weeks. Like I said it sounds like car crash tv, but the results did seem to bring them closer and seem a little happier with each other.

Then we had mail order Russian brides on Channel 4, followed by the private lifes ot two mistresses. All very intimate.

Morning television schedules are full of 'real life' confessional programmes. From Jerermy Kyle to Trisha. All full of people willing to open up and share their innermost and private feelings and problems with the viewer.

Has anyone ever appeared on these programmes?

Do you know anyone who has?

Would you?

We did have one member Jason who appeared with his wife Becki on Wife Swap, but with fame came a move to Blackpool, and we don't know his feelings on the subject.

If you did appear what would the tag line be at the bottom of the screen?:D

My neice once appeared on one of these morning shows , she had taken her younger brother because the subject was all about kids not going to school although no good came from it lol he still wouldnt go even after saying on tv that he would ..
I personally think they are dated now and dont like them myself unless its a documentary on real life people with a subject that actually interests me

I once caught the train back home to London with a couple that were going down to appear on Trisha.

Nosey git that I am, I recorded it for a month to see if I could find out what their problem was, to no avail.:D

Lol, parts of the cosey night under the blanket were fascinating.

I came to the conclusion that a woman who describes herself as 'a professional mistress', and has three lovers with no emotional involvement, and wanted even more, was just a prostitute who was too thick to charge the men that used her.

The OU does business courses so she had better sign up for one. To be that emotionaly dead must take some practice.

Her poor twenty one year old son, who also appeared in the programme, thought she was on downward spiral, and facing a lonely old age too.

Dont know if there is a course on how to grow old discracefully. As for being lonely she might get a flash of reality and find one to keep. ;)

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

I've bared all on film. I wouldn't go on trisha though, I had a chance to but declined, my ex went on trisher with her brother and her friend. The story was he couldn't get a girl. my ex was visiting her friend up liverpool at the time, they called her because they wanted someone to go on with her brother to stir it as they do, but because she was up there with the friend they invited her too. He travelled down from the midlands, they travelled down from liverpool. all paid for, cheuffuer limo to the london gateway services hotel, then to the studio, then to the station.
BUT what trisher didn't know and still doesn't know is that it was all a farce. All three ended up in the girls room, he'd never met the friend, they ancied each other and went off to his room leaving my ex on her own (a nasty thing to do i think). So when he went on the show with his sis the next day saying he couldn't get a girl it was untrue, he had got a girl, and a few weeks later maried her. Would have probably made a more interesting show if he'd told the truth.
I have been through some of the most bizarre circumstances and situations with that ex. which is why I feel a responsibility to her that ultimately cost me me new relationship.
should be me n her on trisha not her brother but I wouldn't not ever.

Professional? Sounds like a total amatuer to me. Aren't professionals supposed to get paid?

I wouldn't mind one of those extreme makeover programs. Maybe like the American one where they totlaly rebuild your house.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

2 of my friends were on Trisha last year,as usual the producers stirred it up and made them do things that they were not comfortable with but went along with it (eg got the fella to lay on a couch for the opening making out his lazy-when in fact he was working 12 hour shifts and looking after his daughter). They regret even asking to go on the show and cringe whenever anyone mentions it.They made a real fool out of each other.
And as for me i would never even consider doing anything of the sort, waste of time.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

That ties in with what I've been told about wife swap, they told becky to not do any tidying up then make out it was her choice. It's all engineered to create interest but at the time the people involved don't realise how bad it looks on film.
Same on Changing Rooms, completely controlled by the producers and directors.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

I would hate to go on Changing Rooms. Just imagine letting the likes of Laurence Llewellyn Bowen loose on your front room!

I've never watched any of this rubbish but do remember Jason appearing on here. There was an article in the 'Telegraph' earlier this week that I think refers to his ex wife/partner.

The simple truth is that the people who appear on these programmes are invariably mentally deranged and socially inadequate, although no different from those desperate enough to watch 'em.

I have to watch them, until the drugs kick in and I get out of bed.

Now you have more time on your hands Tea I'll keep my eye out for you.:D

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

Can't say as I've really watched trisha or changing room, only when my ex or someone had it on in the background. I think some live such boring lives tealeaf that it a very exciting prospect to be able to appear on national tv. I'd add bored and depressed to you list.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

There's no way that I would appear on one of those 'wash yer dirty linen in public' programmes. People happen do it for an all expenses paid day out, who knows??

I do know of someone who appeared on How Clean is Your House. She was told not to do any housework for 6 months prior to the show.. These shows are totally fabricated and mostly boring.

I would not bare my soul on tv and I would definitely not bare body parts. The nation would crumble with the weight of people ringing in sick...:D

I think that the audience might begin to scream, "Put it on," and ticket sales would plummet. I've done a lot of shows and a lot of silly things, but I'd prefer to do them in clothes or costume.

Billcat 04-10-2006 17:59

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

Regarding reality shows, no thanks! Those reality shows are just a cheap way for the television producers to sell adverts.

The programs put me in mind of the quote from Thoreau, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation....." I think every aspect of these shows reeks of desperation - the folks who appear, the folks who watch and the folks who produce.

Now, I did, quite accidentally manage to appear on Saturday Night Live. Was minding my own business, watching the people go by in Santa Monica, CA, while waiting for my wife and her mom one January afternoon, and was asked to do a "man in the street" interview for them.

I cant stand to even watch these programmes, I'm not surprised that its mostly fabricated, Trisha etc, as for the others on channel 4 last night I missed them and did want to watch them, does anyone know if there going to be repeated?

Trashy and exploitive. But these shows seem to fascinate viewers. Perhaps it makes them feel better to know that there are others who are in worse situations than their own.

:o I once appeared on "change that" where they do up pieces of furniture, they altered some old dilapadated crates that my then hubbie got from work (they were crates that the cable tv boxes were transported in) and made them into army type toy boxes for my lads... and now they are being enjoyed by my friends little boy... they were done about 10 years ago

I used to like that program. They actually did do some quite nice things, making good use of something which may otherwise have been thown out. I think the rot set in afterwards with the house make-overs etc.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

I've bitten the bullet and told the biggest gossip on here what happened and he says i should tell you all what happened! He says its an example of what positives can come out of being on tv!

Anyway here goes.

I was 17 and working for Business Support Unit on the YTS in Accrington and we were based above M & S and what is now pharmacy & card shop. Anyway Granada did this programme that went out on Mondays at 3.30pm & 6pm full of local stuff. They had a segment in it which they got people to advertise themselves for jobs and they rang the training side of BSU up and they told the trainees and 10 of them said they wanted to advertise themselves for a job. On the day only 9 of them turned up and they still wanted another one. I got asked if i would do go on and fill the last place up. Me being me said no and then got talked into it by a couple of people. We got 3 mins to talk about ourselves and what kind of job we were looking for. I ran out of things to say and ended up saying im honest and reliable. Went home & told my family but also said for no one to say anything and managed to keep my mouth shut. I was praying for it to go out on Monday afternoon not the teatime one. My mum rang me up at work to say that i hadnt been on in the afternoon and with that i thought well thats me finished! Anyway i was on the teatime one. I ended up being the last one being broadcast in the segment and when it ended and went back to the presenter he said i'm sure you are jennifer! I hated that. Went to the pub later on that night and the amount of stick i got for doing that was unbelievable. One bloke said he'd come in from work and had sat down and was eating his tea - he had a mouthful of peas when i came on - he said the dog enjoyed eating the peas after he'd spat em out all over!
There was 10 interviewed and broadcast - and i was the only one who got a job from it. What happened was my bro's old boss from Moss Gears was watching it and he recognised my last name and he was a director and was looking for a secretary/office junior in his office. They contacted BSU on the tuesday, was interviewed on the wednesday and i started there on the following Monday!

About time you did something I told you to do.:D

This shows that in this case a positive thing that came about because of a tv appearance.

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

Well that's a good story Shillelagh. Why were you concerned about sharing it? Something like that is a far cry from "I hate my wino Dad"/"My teenage daughter is a porn star" or the other junk on Jeremy Kyle type progs

shillelagh 05-10-2006 16:53

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

Probably because of the amount of hassle i got when it was first shown! Plus i was 17 i am now 39 so it was a long while ago. I know i shouldnt because it was a long time ago and everyones forgotten it well i hope they have anyway!

WillowTheWhisp 05-10-2006 17:01

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

My youngest was on Granada reports a few years ago in a doughnut eating contest in Morecambe. They were supposed to eat jammy doughnuts without licking their lips. She was about 6 at the time. A hulking great lad won because he ate more but behind Paul Crone's back he was licking the sugar and jam off his lips.

Later that day a group of girls came up to us and said to Emz that she should have won because she was he only one who didn't lick her lips. That made her day.

shillelagh 05-10-2006 17:10

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

Poor Em! At least she knew she didnt cheat! The other girls made her day and i bet you she was happy enough with what the other girls said to her.

WillowTheWhisp 05-10-2006 17:25

Re: Would you bare all on tv?

The prize wasn't worth having anyway. :D I think she was more interested in the doughnuts!
