today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
this lunchtime I was in the local shop next to my work buying some lunch and at the front of the queue were 2 young guys causing a bit of hassle with the shop assistants, it turned out that the 2 guys were drunk and were buying more drink..they eventually left with said drink and wandered off..but as I left the shop they were sitting in their car and shouting at me as I walked by, so I clocked their reggy plate, got back into work and called the local cop shop, gave them the details required and was told that they would put local cars out to stop them to see if my story was correct..I got a phone call later on in the day from the police to say that 1 man has been charged with drink driving - who was clearly over the limit and the other man has been charged with threatening behaviour and at that the officer on the phone thanked me.
but some of the guys at work gave me some grief for being a 'grass' and that I should have let them get on with it as they werent bothering me..I said its not the point - what if they had crashed their car into one of their families cars....they didnt quite grasp what I was saying but thats up to them..but it did get me thinking...when do you turn a blind eye to things... |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done. They could have easily drove off later and killed somebody. You're not a "grass", you have maybe saved a life, and a whole load of heartache.
I'd give you some karma, but i'm all spent for today. Restasured though, it's on the way tomorrow. :D |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
I think you did the right thing, especially with the drink driving, I'm sure the guys you work with would change their mind if a member of their families were hurt or killed by someone drink driving, well done, I'm quite shocked the police acted on your phone call though I dont have much faith in them.
|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
I was expecting to read that the police hadn't done anything too!
You certainly did the right thing. As you said the driver could so easily have crashed the car and killed someone. |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
:Banane29: good on you what would have happened if you just let them get away with it and they killed somebody it would be on your concious forever just ignore the grass jibes theyve got no real context of life;) probably just sad losers........

|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
no question at all glasgow guy 100% the right thing, those that gave you grief are mindless dickheads.
|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
People who do such things need taking off the road. They are not just risking being caught they are risking everyones live on the road. There was a story in the paper a while back of a 18yr old from Liverpool, no insurance, no tax, no MOT and in a stolen car and was speeding round streets. Killed a 5yr old girl. Punishment? £200 fine. Imagine if that was your little girl, is your child only worth £200?

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Cheers Glasgow Guy, i'm without car now for 12 month
Wasn't me really, I never drink and drive and if I have had a skin full I dont even drive the day after. You did the right thing, ignore what your "mates" at work say. Have you read Gayles thread about "what if"? In her case it was about missing an accident, on this one we could have been talking about a childs life |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done glasgow guy. I would have shook your hand if you was my work mate.
CANNOT understand why they said you was a grass  I wonder if them idiots had knocked over and killed one of their chidren ( god forbidd) that they would have been keen to turn a blind eye to them being drunk and driving?? Drunk Idiots on the road kill alot of innocent people, and deserve far worse than a ban.:( |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done Glasgow Guy, it could have been my child or anyone elses child or relative or friend whose life you have saved. That is what you are, a LIFESAVER, don't let anyone tell you any different.
Whats the betting that the "mates" that called you a grass also drink and drive. I HATE drink drivers, they are selfish potential murderers. |

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
3 cheers for Glasgow Guy.....
You did exactly the right thing. |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
A law abiding citizen. Let the greif flow away and ask the guy's at work when are they going to get caught? Lay odds on them drink driving on the odd occasion thats why the grief they feel threatened.

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Yeah well done glasgow guy , you did the right thing .. your workmates would have prob taken a different attitude if it had been them in your shoes , so dont worry bout them . some folk say that, until its them thats got to do the grassing ..

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
My Mum did a similar thing whilst waiting to pick up my nephew and niece from the school bus.
A well known Ossy builder staggered out of the Tinker and Budget pub. He was so p*ssed he crossed Union Road on his hands knees. He then got in his car and somehow drove off. So angry, my Mum, went into the pub and called 999. He later received a ban, but is sadly now back on the roads.:( |

I agree with everyone else - you did right. Its not just kids its anyone who could have been walking across the road or even the path if he totally lost control. It could have been your mum or dad or sister or brother.

Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done Glasgow Guy. You did the right thing and probably saved a life or two whilst doing so.
You colleagues who are calling you a grass are probably either drink drivers themselves or they're just dangerously stupid..:D |

They're probably criminals. If I was you Glasgow Guy, I would keep a close eye on my wallet at work because from the sound of your workmates its very likely to get nicked. |
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Well done Glasgow Guy, without a doubt you did the right thing, these drink and drive merchants are the scum of the earth, they have no regard for the consequences of their actions and they cause untold misery, in my opinion they should be shot to prevent them from re offending. Don't feel bad about it because a bunch of half wits think you are a grass, you did the general public a good turn, good on you mate!
|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
Totally the right thing to do - they sound like a right unsociable pair - giving everyone aggro in the shop and then shouting at you from their car. I'm glad that the police actually did something aswell - you hear too many stories about when they do nothing so it's a nice surprise!
|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
You should be proud of yourself. Well done. I would grass any driver up for drinking and driving.
|
Re: today I phoned the police regarding a drunk driver
I gave Glasgow Guy some well deserved karma.
