A Sunday Revue

A Week is a long time in politics said Harold Wilson, it is also a period of time during which alot of diverse and interesting threads get posted on Accyweb.

I was just wondering if like with the papers we should start a thread dedicated to highlighting some of the more interesting or bizarre topics from the point of view of one invited member each week. How that person is picked each week is open to suggestion.

It could be any member from our ageing Administrator, (Yes Roy, you, another birthday under your belt just this week, receding hairline and grey sideburns are inevitably coming your way), to a relative newbie, (here I suggest someone that has had a minimum of 100 posts so that they have had a chance to get used to us).
Just plain English, spelling mistakes allowed and grammar doesn't have to be perfect.

Could it be interesting? Would it be practical? Does anybody care?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be welcome.:)

Sounds a good idea.

Do you provide coffee, and a comfy sofa?:D

Yes, sounds a good idea. Why don't you start it off Less and then nominate the next person for next week.

I think it needs a bit more thought than that Gayle to make sure it is fair about the person chosen, plus they would have to want do it. Also it wouldn't be fair to just dump it without notice onto someone, what if work commitments or holidays where taking them away that week? Perhaps if the person nominated was given some notice so that they can prepare their time for it?
Perhaps, to begin with a list of volunteers to start off, (though this wouldn't get our quieter members to put their names forward).:)

Re: A Sunday Revue

Well then perhaps the person should pm their potential nominee to ensure they had approval first.

Re: A Sunday Revue

I think to start it shouldn't be me, Gayle, Willow nor Less.

It does however need to be someone who comes on quite regularly, otherwise they won't know what has happened in the Accy Web week.

I think Mez or Harwood Red would be a good first choice.

Yes, or Jambutty or if you like your tannin a little strong Tealeaf,

If for this week we just leave it open to discussion that will give others the chance to put their ideas forward.:)

Then we can form a committee to ensure the thing never sees daylight.:D

Re: A Sunday Revue

It would be great if someone who comes on regularly volunteered.

Expat, LancyYorkYankee, Bullseyebarb???

You fancy giving us an overseas view?

Neither do I!:D

Hopefully members that post regularly in the Stanley section will put themselves and others forward, I don't visit there often enough to make any suggestions.

I am game for it. We could get a good laugh out of it as well. Providing there is no sniping at the reviewers commint then this could run for quite a while. As for the sub one hundred posters we can get an insite into the initial feelings of newbie's when they join and could all learn from it.

Oooo eck thanks rindy...maybe once it's been done a few times I might accept a nomination to do it down the line...ok so I am just one of those people who don't like to go first  :o

I'm with Spuggie on this one. I would like to suggest that it would be against the rules of the thread, to award or deduct any karma. It could be fun. It's very rare that i read any of the ASFC comments though.

If you knew that it would be your turn the following week, i suppose you could keep an eye on all the topics.

I don't want to go first either.

Geez Barb, I was gonna nominate you. Actually on this side of the pond, seems as though Bullseyebarb and I tend to be on the "RIGHT";) side of the issues while Billcat and Steeljack tend to be on that "other" side.:D

We could do our stint as a kinda American tag team. That way we loud, obnoxious, arrogant . . . Yanks will only "be in charge" for a couple times every other month!

I like Less' initial idea as well as the various comments. Thanks for thinking of us!

Brian

Yes TW3, what a long memory you've got Willow, I think that prog' finished in about '62!

That Was The Week That Was

A link for those of you too young to remember, (this means everyone except you and me will deny being old enough to remember it Willow);)

Re: A Sunday Revue

Amendment

The picture I showed was of a famous sketch done in The Frost Report (which came later), not TW3!
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...308_cleese.jpg

An quick summary of that sketch is below:-

Of all the send-up's that appeared on The Frost Report, the best remembered, and often held as representative of the shows style was the Marty Feldman/John Law penned sketch about class. This involved 6ft 5inch Cleese standing next to 5ft 8inch Barker who in turn stood next to 5ft 1inch Corbett, and using each man's height to illustrate their standing in society. Middle-Class Barker explains: 'I look up to him (Cleese) because he is upper class but I look down on him (Corbett) because he is lower class.' Corbett: 'I know my place.' The sketch lasted no more than a few minutes but remained in the memory for so long that some thirty or more years later Ronnie Barker came out of retirement to make an updated version for a TV special with Ronnie Corbett (John Cleese was unavailable so Stephen Fry stood in for him).
