lighter theft at manchester airport

i forgot to mention this when i got back off my hols but the no lighter rule at manchester is a waste of time

i approached the metal detectors with all my belongings in a tray that went through teh x-ray machine

all my belongings were handed back to me including my lighter

i was picked at random ( due to my honest looking face) and thouroghly searched

i left the area and on upon entering the duty free area , dparture lounge i was asked if i had any lighters so naturaly i handed it over coz i didnt want to get into trouble boarding a plane with it

now i thought i was going to have to track down someone who was wise enough to have taken matches and headed to teh smokers area where i asked for a light and almost everyone had a lighter

i asked how did you get them through the security and they said that they didnt as they handed them over but bought one in teh shops after they entered teh departure lounge

so in conclusion manchester airport is only a lighter free zone for about 50 yards between where your lighter is stolen from you and the shop that sells them, unless of course everyone was lying and they were all lighter smugglers :)

I was talking to a woman in the departure lounge who had come through security with 2 lighters in her handbag, she didn't hand them in and they weren't picked up by security screening.

The worst thing is that when you give up your lighter and go through to the departure lounge, they will sell you a lighter there for twice the price. It is the same with bottled water. Manchester airport were charging £1.75 ish for a bottle of water!!!!! It's not even famous water or water which has trickled for centuries through caverns lined with diamonds..

These pathetic attempts at increased security are nothing more than a money making scam.

It wasn't £1.75 when we went through 3 weeks ago, I paid 99p for a 500ml Volvic in Boots.

We did get caught out on the way back as we forgot to pack Siobhans knife and fork in the suitcase so had to leave them to their new life in Croatia. I wouldn't mind but they wree kiddies safety ones that are as blunt as they come.

Although some of the security rules have been relaxed since August, I was shocked when we went away in September, that the increased security, ie: no liquids of any kind, was only for out bound flights in the UK, and not for any flights entering the country.

Rather makes a mockery of EEC unity.

As its technically impossible to make a 'binary bomb' on any flight due to all teh other 'requirements' it was actually just an enormous piece of propaganda by this wonderful goverment of ours

That's about as daft as you can get.

When we were coming home Em had left her geometry set out of her suitcase and put it in her hand luggage. It was detected and the scissors (Yes, I don't know why scissors feature in her geometry set either!) were confiscated but not the compass.

about a yr back i went to pakistan with my lil one and we had loads of nappies with us - we were over the weight and begged pleaded with them to let them thru - no sorry mate if u do u have to pay £10 per kilo - damn i htought. dad was like when u get to pak just find a UK supply shop and get em from there. they'll b expensive but what else can u do?

so i had to leave about 3 bundles here. got thru customs and in the duty free there was a boots - so i went there and asked if they had nappies of that size and they did - i bought 4 bundles for a cheaper price in the shops and no one questioned the fact i was well over the hand luggage weight limits...

It's all obviously a fiendish plot. Right now there is probably a black market economy based on illicit nappies and cigarette lighters!
