PC Brigade Strike Again..
 

The TaxPayers are paying for a scheme in Newcastle Upon Tyne which the Council's Environmental Services Team have organised to use a cherry picker crane to strip trees bare of conkers before children can get their hands on them.

They will collect all the conkers and hand them out to local schools for the children, so the children dont hurt themselves or damage property whilst getting the conkers.

Its PC GONE MAD I TELL YA! :eek: What is this Country coming too.. :mad:

The whole fun in conkers is getting them!!

No doubt the year after they will be picking them off to stop damage, then disposing of them because children might hurt themselves hitting each other with conkers, they'll hand sponge balls out at the local schools!

I'm sure that i heard that a school made their pupils wear safety goggles when playing conkers last year.

At least they're giving the conkers to the children and not confiscating them all as dangerous weapons. :rolleyes:

I've sent off my subscription to this P.C. Brigade, and still haven't received my membership badge.

I'd like to go up in a cherry picker, especially to prevent other people having nasty accidents.

I collect them for my daughter and she stays well clear. I "aquired" a long aluminium pole to knok them down though she stills thinks I should climb the tree take my pole and batter more down. :o A carrier bag full aint enough for her and wouldnt mind but SHE DOSNT PLAY CONKERS! Starting to wonder if she is flogging them at school. :confused:

You won't receive a bagde until your fully trained.

i.e. How to wear it safely, when not to wear it, only wear the the badge in a safe working environment. Of coarse don't forget to complete a "Risk Assesment" every time time the badge is worn.

Badges are very sharp & dangerous items.

At Ossy Tech back in the late forties and early fifties I would buy a packet of 50 elastic bands for 6d and sell them at 3 for a penny. Tied together they made an excellent finger catapult to fire paper pellets. I even made the paper pellets and sold them at 10 for a penny. A 3 inches square of paper rolled from one corner made first rate missiles to fire from the finger catapult and were much more accurate than folded paper that most people used. Most people couldn’t roll and bend the result to make a missile without it cracking at the fold. The trick was to roll them a little bit loose then they wouldn’t crack when bent to form an arrow.

I suppose that today the PC lot would throw their arms up in horror at kids firing at bits of paper at each other across a classroom.

My friend's sons did a roaring trade in conkers when they were at school. The best trees for miles around were in their church grounds. They used to grade and size them before selling. When they charged my daughter for a bagfull their Dad told them off but I said he shouldn't curtail their spirit of enterprise. He might be thankful for it one day. :D

It's just a pity those catapults won't work on the internet jambutty, I know where my missile would be directed.

Hello to him whoever he is.

I can only remember four classmates and none of them were what you could call an actual mate.

There was a Fred Holden who at the time I considered to be the school bully.
There was a lad nicknamed Becka (I can’t remember his real name) who was very good at football and cricket. Sports as well I think.
There was a guy called Alan Brown on whose head I broke some bones in my left hand when I thumped him for pinching my comic.
Jeff Baily who lived on Avenue Parade.
