People dont half annoy me :mad:

How the family have the cheek to 'demand' the prosecution of the Soldiers and the Commanding Officers who shot Terry Lloyd the ITN News Reporter. Fair enough, go ahead and bring the Commanding Officers to the Court.. but why the hell are they 'demanding' the Soldiers face Court action! :mad: The Soldiers follow orders from their officers.. if they say shoot.. they shoot! It's not the Soldiers who are responsible, if anyone is responsible, its the Commanding Officers.

If every family, of every person killed in this war took Court action against the Soldiers who killed them, there would be no Soldiers! Who on Earth is going to want to be in the Army when you know you may face prosecution if your commanded to shoot someone? Its ridiculous!

What does everyone else think about this issue?

I totally agree with you on this one. The first thing you learn in the Army is to follow orders without hessitation & without questions.

From what I have read, Mr. Lloyd and his team were there as unilaterals rather than embeds. This would have placed them in an even more dangerous position. It is also worthy of note that the enemy often uses vehicles such as ambulances to transport fighters or arms. No officer worth his salt is going to put his men at risk unnecessarily during the height of battle. It is very sad that Terry Lloyd lost his life in this way - but he had to have known how perilous the situation would be before he ever went to cover this war.

It took the American powers that be two months to have an enquiry into the unfortunate loss of Mr Loyd, this was after the fact, the out come was predictable 'fortunes of war'.
How long after the incident did our 'powers that be' come to the conclusion that he was unlawfully killed.

A war zone is a nasty place to be. As long as the rules of engagement are followed, you cannot start second guessing the outcome.

Would be those 'rules of engagement' be similar to the rules of the United Nations Charter on war, which Kofi Annan in 2004, said were broken, thus making this particular war illegal?

Before any litigation takes place the powers that be should establish if the soldiers were in fact following orders and whose orders they were.

Soldiers in the field are given some licence on how to react to or handle a particular situation and they could act not strictly in accordance with the given orders. In such a situation they are responsible for their actions. Otherwise the blame goes up the command line. However each level of command also has discretion on how to apply any given orders and the higher you go the closer the ranks are closed.

No, she didn't make a typo. If the United Nations ever managed to enforce any of its resolutions, perhaps the U.S. wouldn't be required to do so much heavy lifting.

whereas i do agree with the whole risk of being in the war zone etc i think with this case there was critical evidence htat the soliders were part neglect to those rules of engagement and were deliberatly targeting civvies too

i'm sure i heard that on either radio 5 or on the news
