Hmmm  The only place I can think of is Broad Oak. The red building in the background looks like college.

At first glance, it looks far too rural to be anywhere close to the town centre, but if you look at the fourth thumbnail shot, you can see the arcade building on Warner Street between the trees. Got to agree with you, Willow, it would make an excellent landscaped regeneration area with perhaps an industrial heritage theme. All it would take is a little bit of commitment and imagination from the council...oh well, never mind.

Yes, just imagine coming out of the arcade in Warnr Street to find a lovely landscaped area just round the corner. To make to a bit clearer to those who aren't quite sure where I was.

Re: This is the area I'd like to see regenerated.
That's where I park when I come to town, though I've never seen so few cars parked, normally it's chocka. I never knew the name of it though.
I've never really thought about it being an area in need of major regeneration. The landscaped parts are nicely done, though the wall by the stream needs repairing. The big building that was the plumbers merchants (Hargreaves?), is in the process of being taken over and done up. The only problem as far as I can see it is that there are usually sacks of rubbish left in the street, which have obviously missed the correct collection day, because they are usually still there days afterwards. |
Re: This is the area I'd like to see regenerated.
By the way I wasn't being negative, by saying it wasn't an area that sprang to mind as being in need of regeneration. A good clean up, and repair yes.
What in my mind is the major eyesore in the town is Blackburn Road. It's like driving through a shanty town, where all rules of planning standards, and the rule of the law has been abandoned. It used to be an area of smart, established shops and homes. |
Re: This is the area I'd like to see regenerated.
The area I photographed is almost in the town centre but how many people even know it's there? It has an almost rural look yet it's a tiny little oasis. Think of villages with a village green and a duck pond, think of Hebden Bridge with its central river, think of Downham, think of ducks and then think what Accy could have in that area. We could have our own village green with a river instead of a duck pond. It could be a focal point. It could be a refuge on a nice summer's day. It could be an asset instead of a dumping area for bin bags and a couple of car parks.
I was thinking instead of keep regenerating Broadway till the cows come home maybe they could look at something else the town has to offer. HBC's idea of regeneration could leave Blackburn Road looking even worse than it does now! We can never go back to the uniformity and appeal of the good solid built stone terraces. We just get a mishmash of different things cropping up at different times and being tagged onto each other. |

The approach to my little oasis puts it more into perspective I think.
I noticed that the home brew shop now looks derlict (behind Minster cleaners) and wonder if there's anything there lined up for demolition? |
