Accrington General Post Office
 

I am not sure if this is old news or, and, has been discussed on this forum yet, but I feel quite annoyed that everybody that worked at the general post office at Accrington has lost their jobs. Some people (who I know personally) have worked there for over 15 years. The even more troubling thing is that everybody who works there now are Asian - not a single white person or for that matter any other race. I realize this is a sensitive subject and I do not want to come across as basis, but something somewhere is not right and I would like to hear other peoples views on this subject.

I believe some people moved to other post offices others to other jobs, and all I can presume at the moment is that some lost there jobs. I too signed the petition and as I was told 14 out of the 15 councilors were against the move but it still went ahead away? I personally am not sure what ethnic group takes over is irrelevant?

A friend of mine took redundancy. She'd been at the post office for many years. She worked at Burnley, Preston and Accy.

I have been in the the post office today and the service was excellent, and I don't think there has been any cut backs?

They will be doing because it wont be a Crown Post Office now - it will just be a normal post office.

From what i can remember - i will ask my friend in a couple of days - it's to do on the business side. TV Licences is one as well i think. I cant remember we had a conversation about it all. Because there are some that you cant do at a general but you can at a crown. Because Crown post offices are the ones that are ran by the post office. The rest are like franchises. Ran by people trained by the post office but are owned by them.

Maybe the reason that it's only asian people employed at the post office is that it was bought out by asians. That is what I was told by a lady a few months ago.

Any company with a workforce above a certain size and which wishes to tender for a public sector contract, has amongst other documentation to complete, a form which details the ethnic breakdown of its workforce. In order to progress in the bidding process, the data given should reflect the population profile of the location in which the firm is conducting it's business.Should the company then succeed in winning the contract, then the profiling of its workforce has to be updated annually.

I would guess the the new employees at Accy post office are all on the adult SMW; however, I still cannot see how they appear to be restricted to one ethnic group. This certainly seems to fall foul of the actual letter of the law on private provision in the public sector, if not then certainly the spirit.

Well i use dill hall post office all the time now, no q's, no pushing, and great people who are always chatty and willing to help! Post all my ebay stuff there, never had a problem.

im probably the last to know, but just found out that moorend postoffice is closing too, and moving to crappy co-op, how the hell or where the hell are they gonna shove that in co-op?? and why shut moorend one and leave church one open near traffic lights? you cant even park there!!:mad:

Its got to be said. You lot are so simple minded and frankly very racist.
Who cares who works there or who runs the place if you are getting better service? People had to leave because it was a different company. IF they were happy to work for the same wages as the people who replaced them then they would still have a job. The customer has won again. It's basic financial principles.
Its the same with manufacuring in Britain. IN Accy, people complain that all the manufacturing has gone abroad, but they are the first to buy two shirts for 10 quid at Asda which has been made in Bangladesh by someone earning 20 quid per month. Buck up Accy people.

That's just the problem - we ain't getting better service. Everything from reduced deliveries with Royal Mail through to longer queues at the reduced number of sub-Post Offices and privatised Crown Post Offices mean a far, far worse service.

Oh, and by the way - the old Crown Post office employed a mixture of people from varios ethnic backgrounds. The only racism now appears to be on the part of the new, private company.

Ok i just rang my friend up and she says that Accy post office will be doing exactly the same as the old post office but its now being downgraded to a sub-post office like haslingden is. I asked her what it the difference is and she said TRADITIONALLY a crown office could do everything - a sub post office couldnt do car taxes and passports. Anyway everything has changed since all the closures and everything else and that the sub post offices can now choose do car taxes etc.

Willl you please refrain from generalising about everyone under the banner heading of "you lot". Bagpuss has openly admitted to being racist but apart from his post we've mainly had concern that the new owners of the PO seem to be the racist ones by employing only one ethnic group of people as opposed to the racial mix previously employed there.

In total agreement, please do not class Willow in the same bracket as me, although we may have similar views on some topics multi-racial Britain is not one of those.:)

Are you saying that the minimum wage depends on what your skin colour is?

Do Asian MPs get paid less than anybody else?
