More WTC body parts found
After perusing the news section on the BBc website I came across a story
about the finding of human remains in the rubble collected from the site of the WTC. It has been 5 years since it happened yet these parts keep turning up with no indication of who these poor souls were or if their families knew they had been found. I have to wonder if the job was as thourgh as it should have been at the time or wether they reached a point were they couldnt/wouldnt go any further. I am also wondering how many other body parts have been missed during this clean up that have ended up on a garbage barge. Is it not time to get back in there and make absolutely certain there are no more parts just lying around that could be returned to the surviving relatives? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6070206.stm |
Re: More WTC body parts found
A grim item of news but with such a scale of destruction & with so much debris & carnage i think human remains will be turning up many years from now,in some form or other.I only hope they can eventually put a name to all the victims, for their families sakes.

Re: More WTC body parts found
It is a sad story, but as Maxwell points out, it really comes a little surprise.
However, the dead are just that;dead. No amount of handwringing will bring them back or ameliorate the horror of the way they died. I think that the bereaved families energies would be better expended by trying to seek out the truth of what actually happened on that day, both as a final duty to the innocents who died and as a service to our ideals of democracy. |
Re: More WTC body parts found
We all know the truth about what happened that day AB, they were murdered by power hungry savages.

Re: More WTC body parts found
Its a sad fact that human remains will be found for a long time yet to come. I really feel for those who lost loved ones in the WTC , not recieving a body back for some must mean "no closure". But when and where do you draw the line in saying stop looking for remains. Can they not have the land blessed before rebuilding. That way any remains left will at least be in consecrated land.

Re: More WTC body parts found
We were talking about something similar yesterday.
The site of Foxhill Bank Methodist Church, on Union Road in Oswaldtwistle, now a forecourt to display cars on the corner of Hartley Street, still has bodies buried there. Rest in peace? Hardly. |
Re: More WTC body parts found
For many families there will never be any remains because their loved ones were incinerated as the Twin Towers burned. Only ashes amidst the rubble. A lot of body parts were flung far and wide and as much care as possible was taken to recover any human remains. As Ground Zero was cleared, little by little, the debris was transported to a landfill in New Jersey called Fresh Kills. Oh, the irony!
As is usual with politicians, there has been much squabbling in New York about what ought to replace the Trade Center and many architectural designs have been submitted over the last few years. Personally, I think we should have begun rebuilding the Twin Towers as soon as we could. The very best possible "up yours" to Atta and Bin Laden, et al. |

Re: More WTC body parts found
If the Americans found it a hard and painful task to try and get all the remains in a civillised and dignified maner then what would happen if, god forbid the same sort of disaster hit London. Have to agree with Gayle that they would not be able to agree on which religion and if all were asked to bless it there still would be disagreement. It is going to be a thorn in the side of a lot of people who never had there loved ones remains returned.

The word "kill" refers to the Fresh Kills estuary and has nothing to do with death. There are many bodies of water referred to as "kills" in New York, owing to the period when the Dutch colonized this area. "Kille" is the Dutch word for water channel, so we have Beaver Kill, the Kill Van Kull, the Arthur Kill, etc. You are certainly correct that body parts were flung far and wide. I expect that there will be periodic discoveries for many years to come. The area of devastation was large, and all the surrounding buildings make a very complex area to search. Was in New York last week and rode into the World Trade Center PATH station (PATH the Port Authority Trans-Hudson underground) for the first time. |
Re: More WTC body parts found
Just heard it on the news this dinner time, it seems they have found the remains of at least another 20 people that were buried under a false road they had put in after the disaster to help with the clearing up. Also mentioned was that they had also found some more remains on the top of a sky scraper near to where the towers was.
This is just so sad. |
