Lovely And Northern
 
reading through a thread earlier i noticed ...rindy,willow and gayle talkin about being a gobbiner...

not knowing what it was i did a search and found out that it was actually a saying meaning a native of ossy...mind at rest now :D

anyway the site i found it on is

thought it might be of interest as there are lots more lancashire slang words on there

Very good, but they haven't got 'ginnel'.

Which always made people laugh in London, when I said I'd just come from running up the ginnel.

Aaaargh - not just a native of Ossy, it's far more specific than that.

Yes, they have got ginnel Garinda :cool: .. look again, narrow passageway between buildings.

They ignorant in London .. derives from Gennel .. seems O.E.D (don't know what this means) goes back as far as 1669 .. so my Coronation Street book on Street Talk says. :D

Many happy memories of these passage ways ... 'cept now just full of dog pooh now. ' cause dog owners think we can't see 'em there .. :(
