Th 'ossy bus is 'ere!

Good news for those of you who, like me, have a deep affection for the old Accrington Corporation buses. Corgi have recently launched a scale model of a Leyland double decker in the original livery. At around twenty quid, it's certainly no toy, but it is a beautful replica. It's painted in the famous blue and red colours and features the original coat of arms and a destination board reading 'Oswaldtwistle (Black Dog)' along with lots of other authentic details. Quite a hefty price but you can sometimes pick 'em up a few quid cheaper on ebay. What are you waiting for? Buy yourself a little piece of history!

The red is a bit too orangey isn't it?. ACT buses were more of a claret in those red bits weren't they? I'd be tempted to repaint it and then of course I'd have ruined it as a collector's item.

:) Hi Willow,
To be honest I don`t know if it`s just the photo`s & not the models that make`s em look orange. My bet it`s just the photo`s

Willow! It should be "which" not "what".

On the subject of the coat of arms check out Atarah's website, but she got permission to use it.

The picture in the pub section of that site of the black horse is when my parents had it, hehe :)

Forgot all about this thread! I have both models and, yes, the red does look slightly more subdued in real life. However, one of the models has a blue roof and I'm sure ACT buses always had red ones. Despite that, they're both beautiful items with lots of little details like the address of the transport office at the bottom of the bodywork. An evocative and poignant reminder of the days when Accrington had its own bus fleet...and one we could be proud of too!

Grego, you can buy 'em from the Ian Allen model shop on Piccadilly station approach in Manchester.

Yes I think you're right. I'm fairly sure they always had red roofs. It was a very rich deep crimsony sort of red.

When I said "What coat of arms?" in an earlier thread I couldn't actually see the C of A on the side of the bus in the photo. Maybe I should have put my glasses on. :D

The coat of arms is actually quite well reproduced on the models, considering the size.

Quite a few of these buses are now turning up on ebay at reduced prices.

Fancy ACT bus tickets being worth money (that's if anybody bids for it). Most of us must have thrown hundreds - perhaps thousands of them - away in our time!

Now, if it was a "twenty-oner" it would be worth something! ;)

OK, John, I give up, what's a twenty-oner?
