Trick or Treaters?
How many did you have?
For the past few years because of my mum what i used to do was carve a pumpkin and light it up and put it out on the front doorstep with a bowl of sweets and a note on the door with an arrow pointing downwards towards the bowl of sweets. I'd go out about 9pm and the bowl would be empty and the pumpkin candle would be about on its last legs. This year i thought the kids can knock - I've had 2 lots of kids that called. So i now have loads of sweets i cant stand! Next year i think i'll buy sweets I like - not what the kids like! :D |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
See a stanley match has it's uses on a mega cold night...not only was it a fab game, I wasn't stuck at home getting pestered by a load of black bin liners ;) :p

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Luckily I've only had one, as I'm a bit tucked away here at Rindy Towers.
Middle of making a stir-fry. Ding-dong. Ding-dong. Said as a sing song threat. 'Money or sweets, trick or treat.' Said in reply. **** *** :D |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
We didn't have any callers this year. Happen they have sussed 'im indoors out at last, or it could have been the rain that kept them off the streets.
The children here have an awful habit of throwing eggs everywhere. Not nice. |

Re: Trick or Treaters?
we had a few come to our door but they was a tall as me must have been at least 15
|
Re: Trick or Treaters?
I had 3 lots.
The first group was 5 children and parents, explained i couldnt give to all but hoped they had a communial collection bucket. They didnt, they all had buckets each :( The second group contained 8 kids, all with buckets each :( :( The third group ... well i gave up answering the door ! I know, im a tight wad, but after just getting back from the chiropractor and having 6 discs in my neck re-aligned i wasnt in the mood for getting up and down. |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
We had a few, mainly little ones but I answwered the door to one lot who were all girls who must of been 14-15 at least. "Your a bit old for T&T "said I, They still took choocys from the bag though
Whats this with pumkins anyway, we always had a swede. I love the smell it gives off as the candle burns down effectively cooking it! Oh and it wasn't trick or treat back then either! |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
We had loads and I absolutely loved it. I carved a pumpkin to put in the window (much easier to carve than the swedes we used to have as kids) and decorated the window. The door had a luminous "scream" mask and warning signs not to enter as the house is haunted (but of course they have to enter to get their sweets) The garden also roped off with warning signs about hauntings.
Inside the vestibule they are met with a flying cackling witch with flashing red eyes and a luminous skeleton pointing further in down the hallway ---- where they are then met by "Big Aggie" , my lifesized (short lifesized) witch holding a cauldron full of sweets which they help themselves to but as they do so she shrieks at them and her eyes flash red too. The rest of the house was (and still is) decorated and full of extra witches to the ones people normally see when they come here because we've got a "sleepover" and they are in fact still asleep! It was brilliant seeing kids squealing and giggling at things last night and to be told "you've got a really cool haunted house Mrs" and "Luv yer pumpkin". We had no trouble makers at all and although the children could help themselves to the sweets they only took one or two each. Em went out with some friends and some younger children dressed as a grim reaper and I painted her face to make her look suitably grim and scary. |

Re: Trick or Treaters?
I've decided next year to wrap laxatives up in Quality Street wrappers. I'll trick 'em.:D
On a serious note, living in a nanny state, if you gave someone who called at your home unsolicited, something to eat, and they developed food poisoning could you be sued? |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
I think i escaped this year or i frightened the kids so much during previous years that most dont bother to knock at mine - as they didnt expect a trick back:eek: :D pmsl
Yet this year i had a break LOL |

Hehehe... I knew there would be some advantages to working late yesterday. I got home at 21.45 and I had missed them all, what a shame. :D

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Not impressed up our neck of the woods;we had the pumpkin lit and the house trimmed up ,my little one went out as a very convincing vampiress after we had already about 4 lots of trick or treaters round and she came back with virtually nowt as the tight wads round here weren't answering their doors! I gave out just under a fiver's worth of sweets and have done for the past 4 years;and answered the door every time! Some folk just need to lighten up a bit;not every knock on the door is an evil hoodie;don't think even one of ours last night was in their teens! Grrrrr.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Glad I was at the footy.
For me it's a stupid tradition, just like valentines. Just a commercial load of tripe. |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
Bought a tin of quality street and no-one came knocking. First year in ages there's been no trick or treaters.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
Halloween is a bit of a money making thing now like Shakermaker said, but it is good to do something different, to dress up or whatever. I've been to two fancy dress do's Halloween related and to the footy dressed up in black with spiders drawn on my face! But I never do anything for the kids when they come knocking, last year we hid in the back room with the lights off (scrooges that we are), but this year was at the Stanley v Blackpool game so missed the lot of them. You never know, next year I might get more into the swing of things.

Re: Trick or Treaters?
I was on my way home from 2 weeks in Malta last night but I know my granddaughter, aged 7, went round our street with 4 friends, her mum and another mum. Laura was dressed as a witch as was one neighbour, whose children are now in their 30s, who had dressed up for the occasion to join in the fun.
To the children it was an exciting evening to dress up and collect a few sweets. They got some money too, Laura's share was about £2, but that wasn't really the point. The whole thing was about being out in the dark, dressing up and having a great time. They weren't bothered whether they were given anything or not, it was innocent fun and they just wanted a smile. In recent years I've had plenty of visits on Hallowe'en. The kids are always accompanied by parents and I've always kept a stock of sweets and pretended to be scared stiff by miniature ghouls and skeletons and always been rewarded by a muttered "Thank you" as they shuffled off down the drive. Perhaps I'm lucky, living where I do, that we don't get horrible teenagers on the make. Only once, about 20 years ago, did we have that. My son was still at home and answered the door to 2 teenaged girls who said "Trick or treat". He said he'd have the trick. Half an hour later a note was pushed through the letterbox, it said, "Here's your trick - Asshole". That was the worst it got. :) |
Re: Trick or Treaters?
well I made 20 or so bags of mixed sweets and lollies lit my usual 2 pumkins for front garden and my teenage daughter did the honour of dishing them out, good night all weenies and no teenies and all bar 2 bags cleared to the delight of my daughter who hates the thought that shes too old for it now lol
