One Down - Several to Go!

The first casualty, surprised it took so long with all the dumbheads in Accy:rolleyes: Still, it looks like they have a chrome post growing to replace the tree:p

Bloody evil swines they are!
|
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Well that didnt last long did it? They'll be soon removing them again & why didnt they put the chrome posts a lot higher to protect the tree more? or is that too much common sence?

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Was it picked up on CCTV monitoring the area? If not why not?

it saddens me to think that some perverted person achieved some pleasure out of this mindless act of vandalism.
And yes.....with one camera per 14 people...why was the culprit not seen and apprehended.......whoever it is, needs to have a sensitive bit of their anatomy snapped off |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Bloody idiots.:(
It's their/our own envirinment they are spoiling. If I found them I'd whip them to within an inch of their lives with the broken tree. |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
It's probably someone from this board protesting against the council! ;)
(ps not me :p) |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Just been down town... theres a camera on the corner of gamestation a couple of feet away from the broken tree. I hope this was picked up.. otherwise why are the CCTV there?

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Mimi has just informed me that this damage has been done since Thursday at least. Why haven't the council taken action?
It would take just a minute or less to remove the tree at its broken trunk so that at least it is less obvious. At the time of taking the photo, the gent in the picture shows his displeasure in his face, multiply that a few hundred times on a Saturday - - - |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Just looking at that photo, have you seen the state of all the chewy marks on the ground?!
It's disgusting! Council my arse. |

That's really ashame. Why can't kids these days enjoy the old pasttime of cow tipping. It's so much more challenging.
I do hope they catch the little buggers. Nice punishment for em (after Rindy gets through with em) would be to put em in pink coveralls and have them all scrub the walks with toothbrushes!:) IMHO;) Brian |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
What a shame... I dont get why people would want to do this. Who ever did this needs snapping them shel ... half hearted g*ts
|
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
its pathetic really :( , and the fact the council seem happy to leave the pathetic looking thing on display rather than sorting it and want for better words..."nip it in the bud"!!! ok you can all groan now

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
cctv is ok but where are the local cops , why are they not walking the town center beat, one of the 'worst' moments in my life was being grabbed by the scruff of the neck by a foot patrol cop whilst in the middle of a quick s**g in a recessed doorway in the Warner st. shopping arcade , aside from threats to notify the girls parents and arrest me for public intoxication/indecency the possibility of our names and addresses appearing in the local press was enough for us to proceed quietly on our way home, (me with my tail between my legs )

This incident has really upset me ... it does beggar belief .. like everyone else, just don't get it . What will they do to replace it .. will they have to plant another sapling, or can it be put together again with sticky plaster ? .. well, you know, something like that. |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
What on earth do these nunpties gain from doing such a thing? Did that poor tree look at them the wrong way or hit them on the way past? It must have been a real hard man that did this and he must be walking around bragging about the night he took a tree on and won. Wouldnt matter if it was caught on CCTV because if he was arrested and taken before the beaks it would have been a case of exuberent youthful jinx slap on the wrist and dont do it again.

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Well, Monday 6th November 9pm. Do we know if the council have bothered to remove this poor tree yet? Bloody useless. Like the fact that litter is left to blow all over broadway all weekend. In Manchester the cleaners are out at the end of every day making it ready for the next one.
PS Chewing gum should be banned. People who need to permanently chew must have evolved from cows. (thats an insult to the cows!). |

Whoevr said progress needs a bang on the head considering what has happened on Broadway. Trees damaged dodgy paving hell even the flower beds suffered. What kind of society have we created that does this to something that is meant for the benifit of all?

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Dont agree with you Lanc, How can you say kids did this?? probably was kids but you have no proof to say it is kids. It could have been anybody coming home from a drunk night or just someone looking for abit of fun.

The Tree Council’s National Tree Week 22 November – 3 December 2006 This is the Tree Council’s festival to mark the start of the tree planting season, and a nationwide celebration of trees and woods. Just keeping non-residents an ex-pats up to date with events in the borough Mancie. Not everyone is fortunate enough to live here.
|
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
I know what you and everyone else is getting at willow.. but the amount of reaction to this tree is bordering on obsession.. the tree got broke.. windows are smashed in.. people are afraid to walk down to the shops after dark ( and thats around 6pm) kids knife other kids.. I don't think the tree means that much.

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
It's only recently been planted in the latest doing up of Broadway. Of course it matters. That doesn't mean that murders muggings and break-ins don't mean anything but just because these other awful things happen does it mean we should turn a blind eye to wanton vandlism and the length of time it took anybody to shift the dead chunk?
Perhaps if vandalism could be nipped in the bud (pardon the pun) then they wouldn't go on to commit worse offences. We just happen to care about the town. Anything wrong with that? |

A tree gets broke.. ok it may be an example of what people see as "chavs" destruction.. but it's just as likley to be a 40yr old drunk..but this has turned into a sort of shrine..A broken tree does not mean the end of civilisation.. get things into percepetive..... "get me at lunchtime?" Katex..typical talk from people who feel they have "chat forum power" ..its not real.. do it mugchops.

the tree seems to take over all of your time.. waht about real issues like run down areas and the violence in this accy? |

Just that the oak trees were meant as a symbol of Accrington, if you care to read our history, and was important to a lot of us. There are always other more serious crimes to attend to I know, but you can't relate it to this vandalism. I thought it represented 'our town' full stop and was a good effort to bring back a little bit of pride to the town, that is why I find it extremely sad. Do I have 'mugchops' ?? :( |

I can assure you I don't need a lesson in the history of Accy.. the original pic of this tree was justified but the resulting post are an example of certain people tring to run down accrington.. there are poeple on this forum that have seen far worst examples of disregard for there community and I still say this tree is small fry compared to the problems Accy has.
|
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
So ignoring the broken tree is more noble in your opinion? What a warped sense of reality you must have.
You must surely have noticed the many other threads on many other topics ranging from deadly (literally) serious to frivolous and humorous. |

Re: One Down - Several to Go!
It doesn't compare to harvesting a tree for paper - that is controlled forestry. This is destructive vandalism. It's not about the tree itself. It's about the mentality of destruction for the sake of destruction - like the idiot who thinks it's fun to scratch the side of your car with a key and make a nice wavy line all the way along it. No big deal in the ultimate scheme of things but no joke for the car owner.
Because other things more serious happen why should we ignore vandalsm? |

Just because Willow started a thread about an act of vandalism in an area that was recently renovated at public huge cost, and people commented on it, just shows concern, not a mass out pouring of hysteria. Still waiting for you to leave this frivolous thread, and start one about the much more serious problems we face in Hyndburn. |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
no one mentioned murder but me.. I only stated that there were many other things to be highlighted than the tree being pulled down.. and there are.. the tree is an unfortunate occurance, but other things are more inportant

Re: One Down - Several to Go!

It may possibly survive, but it won't match the rest. A matching set of trees (whether we actually liked or approved of the choice of tree) was planted on Broadway at the expense of us council tax payers and now that one of them has been vandalsed it will either have to be replaced at the expense of us council tax payers or remain forever there (which knowing HBC is the far more likely scenario) in it's lopped-off vandalsed condition as a reminder of the mindless yobs who frequent our town centre. But hey-ho nobody died so it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter that it is illustrating to the casual visitor that Accrington residents are so used to wanton destruction that they don't even bother when the mess isn't even cleared away for a whole week. Some of us would like to attract people to our town, attract better shops which would encourage more people to come here. We see this as one more step on a slippery downward slope instead of another rung up the ladder. Yesterday I was in town with a bit of time to spare (the queue in the post office wasn't as long as I'd expected it to be) so I thought I'd have a stroll round and look for some Christmas pressies. Good Grief it finally came home to me how pityfully few and far between are the shops which actually stock nice tasteful items. I don't really want to be buying presents from pound shops and charity shops. Shops I once would have gone to are no longer there. Do we really want the town to deteriorate even further or would we like to see it rise like a phoenix from the ashes (or in this case rubble and mess) and go on to greater heights? I did find a nice shop or three in Warner Street and managed to get a few things. Think of it this way. If you'd spent your hard earned cash on a lovely new car and parked it outside in your driveway, then somebody comes along in the night and rips the bonnet off just for the sheer fun of it. Never mind, you can always put a piece of rusty old corrugated iron there in place of it. That will keep the engine dry, it will serve its purpose. It will also look bloomin' awful and I'm sure you wouldn't be proud to drive your vehicle anywhere you could be seen by anyone who knows you. Hopefully the first impressions of this site will be of people who actually care about their envronment and not of people who think it doesn't matter how much destruction takes place.:) |
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Can we get back to the chewing gum issue?I recall a couple of years back seeing a van knocking around with GumBusters written on the side.I assumed it was a private company who removed chewing gum from our streets.Have'nt seen it since, but a cracking idea, since the council can't be arsed to do anything about it.And on a footnote how long does it take to finish off the top end of Broadway?Am i the only one who thought that it was included in the original cost of redeveloping Broadway & not as extra expense some months after the initial redevelopment. They've been at it months, and you can guarentee sme part will need digging up again a few months down the line:mad:
|
Re: One Down - Several to Go!
Maybe gum busting isn't a profitable business, after all it has to be paid for out of our council tax and HBC would rather spend on other important things like, er.....like........er.............
