Re: Is this the way to celebrate Bonfire Night?
Yeah the PC brigade should keep thier noses out,it might have had religous meanings in the past but nowadays its just fun for the kids(and me):) Its a similar thing with Halloween my son was at a camp thing with the school and they wouldnt let the kids do any of the usual fun things to do with halloween.

What was the reason behind that? What's wrong with Hallowe'en now? It's not some idea that we're really calling up ghosties and ghoulies is it?
I remember as a kid we had bonfires in the back alley and we used to run from one side to the other between the fire and the backyard walls to get to dfferent groups of friends. You had to be pretty darned quick because it was very hot! That would be regarded with horror now. In fact I can't believe our parents actually let us do it!! |

Looks like the church schools are still in the middle ages and not in the 21c. How are kids supposed to be normal if there are such silly contridictions at certain times of the year. MT i would slap the teacher into the present day. Even christian festivals moulded themselves around pagen festivals just to make themselves "likeable" yet they seem to forget this. :(
