Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Because i hate it! I cant stand the place! Its a hole where the small minded thugs live. Its an evil magnet that draws people back here.
Since finding Accyweb and meeting some of you i began to see a sunnier side of accrington, but now, even all you lovely accywebbers dont make up for this putrid town of children brought up to be thugs by their thug parents, racists, saddoes, no hopers and dolies. I genuinely want to hear about why you like Accrington? Is it just your friends that make this place bearable? |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Lol, the evil magnet must have drawn me back then, after twenty years away.
I love it, and the people are the main reason I love it. Has something happened to make you feel this way? |

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Bloody Hell Nell, I can’t really impact on how you feel about the place, for me still living away it is something about the past, it’s part of me and despite been told to leave it behind I still feel part of it. :)
I think the town has been degraded over the years but I must say that I don’t think it much different from here; we have the thugs, druggies and the like. Ask yourself is the town and its people your unhappy with or is it your lot in life. What do you yourself want out of it. |

I love the views, the fact you can walk down the road and then theres miles of countryside, the community spirit (it is around),things actually happen if you know what mean-turning on of christmas light Accy actually makes a big thing of it about ten people attend the 'turning on' in the town i grew up in(and thats the person doing doing it and his/her family lol),theres such a mix of character, and the fact its very traditional...most of all Accyweb....oh and i love poundshops-what more could i want!?PMSL.

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
There are a lot worse places than Accrington. I used to live in Blackburn & moved over here about 5 years ago to live with my (then) girlfriend. When we split up i could have moved back to Blackburn but decided to stay. Most off the people i've met here are genuine & friendly. There are some d*ckheads, but that's the same anywhere.
:) |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
There are good and bad places no matter where you live.
|
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
I've lived in Liverpool, London and Glasgow, as well as Ossy. There are sad, mad and bad arses everywhere, but generally the good people outweigh the bad, and round here it is most defintely weighted towards the good uns.

There are loads of great things about Accy, one of the best ones is the friendliness of the people. Most people are helpful and will do what they can for others. Has something happened to you recently Nell to cause you to feel this way? |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Its the town of my birth so dispite living away I still sneak back for a visit. :D I suppose once in your blood you cant get rid of it regardless of how bad it gets.

Your in the rays of sunshine category Katex, they are few and far between.

We live around the corner from the family who did it,they call us in the street and we have to walk past them evryday from school. I say things back, but the children are always there and i'm not getting embroiled in a slagging match in the street. My daughter gets picked on because of the clothes she wears (must be Nike and Addidas how dare she break the rules!) People assume things here, they take one look and assume. I have lived all over too, i moved here from Blackburn and have lived down south. I know there are good people out there but i dont meet many of them. Have you ever heard of passing on a smile? I try to do it all the time, so if some one smiles at you in the street, smile back, and pass it on :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Its already been said there are much worse places to live... we do when needed still have a good community spirit.
The views are first class ( if you get out of town) , we are near to the coast and the city... For most of the time life is good in fact very good in Accrington: |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
It always comes as a bit of a shock when you get people who live along side you and they do the dirty on you......it really doesn't help when the law doesn't support the victims, but seems to be on the side of the perpetrators.
Everyone has pointed out that where ever you go, there will be people who are evil and will take(usually from those who have little to take anyway) what they want rather than earn it. I think most folk in the area are genuine and are just trying to make as good a life as possible for themselves and their family....much as you are trying to do. Don't let this episode make you bitter.....because if you do then the evil people have scored a victory.... they haven't just stolen your property, they have stolen your confidence and your self worth. Don't let it happen. I wish for you better times...and I know it won't help much, but I am sending you a hug(((((((((((((((((((((((((x))))))))))))))))))))) )))))). |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Why do I like Accy??
Its in a beautiful part of the world, there are far more nice areas than bad, its location is superb, (25 mins from M/c city centre if ou want that, 45 mins from sea, 30 mins gets you to any of 6 major market towns and as I said, its beautiful countryside). Also you have a far better chance of buying a nice house in a good area here than in a heck of a lot of places. Julie and I are very lucky, we bought our house in a lovely area before the prices went crazy but even now, if you picked our house up and dumped it in Knutsford(where I work) or down south(where I've just come back from) it would be worth at least another 120-150K than it is in Accy. Likewise even at the lower end of the housing market, people I speak to can't believe that you can still buy a house for under £60K. Peopel aren't all scrotes, it sounds like you have a couple of bad neighbours, just remember that there are lots of nice decent people out there, ignore the scum and look out for the nice ones we are all out here waiting! |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
It is sickening when people do things like that Nell and I can understand your anger. It's even worse when you know who it is and it's not the first time. I do believe there are more good people in Accrington than bad ones though. It's just a pity that something can't be done about the vandals and thieves who spoil it for everybody else.

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
We love Accy mostly because of the people here. We have made some wonderful friends and now view it has home.
There are far worse places to live. At least in Accy most of the natives are a friendly bunch. The only thing I miss about Our old town is my Family and wish I could persuade them to move here but MUMMIBOO say's " It's too cold in the winter and too quiate." |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Is it warmer where she lives????
|
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
She seems to think so Willow but can't say that I have noticed.

Willow, one of the first thinks that stuck me when I first came home was how cold it was. When I think back we where a much hardier bunch when we live in Accy. By hell you know when the wind blows....Still love it. |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
It certainly blows round the back of our house and whistles weirdly through the wires.
|
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Sorry to hear about your trouble Nell.. you get ******'s everywhere.
|
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
You've had some bad experiences Nell, so I can understand how you feel. If you get chance try & get along to the next AccyWeb meet - then you can get to know some of the really friendly people on here or if you like footy try coming to a Stanley game, you'd be made most welcome. Hope things look up for you soon

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Nell has been to Accywebmeets before!
She knows how nice all those of us who go are :D |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Yes, and i'll try and get to the next one, as long as there are no mascots!
Dont let him touch you someone said! Could have told me that before i sat next to him! (not talking about you Ian :) |
Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
The only mascot we have now is a stags head - unless Mel buys Garfield! ;)

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
Bring back the cane belt strap etc and beat some respect into the teens of today. We as parents should take part of the blame along with govenment. At the end of the day Accy is suffering because of a minority of numpties who make it hard on law abiding people. Accy has its issues but if people are willing then the issue could be forced and the town could become a little bit of heaven instead of a little bit of hell. I still enjoy visiting and avoid certain areas like the plauge but would have no hesitation of returning if I wanted to as I like the place. :D

Re: Tell Me Why You Like Accy?
