Accys "Children in Need" Concert

What a wonderful achievement (as it is every year) to raise so much money for such a worthy cause as "Children in Need."

Pop stars, Celebrities, Businesses .......... All give their money or time for free to boost the fund :D Not forgetting the average person, in fact, everyone that I know has given at least a small amount in aid of this charity either in time or money.

I was talking to a friend today. He is part of the Gt. Harwood & Bolton Male Voice Choir, and along with the Hollins Technical College Choir, they both gave a performance at the Accy Town Hall last Sunday (for free........naturally) in aid of the "Children in Need" appeal. Sally Naden from Radio Lancashire also gave her time as compere for this occasion.

I have no details of how much money was raised that day, but have been informed that they are being invoiced for £226-00 for the hire of the Town Hall !!

Wouldn't it have been nice for Hyndburn Council and P.B. in particular to show a benevolent side for once and do as the other 99% of the population has done, do something for nowt!

It is a disgrace, after all is said and done the Town Hall belongs to the people of Accrington not the Council.

I'm sure that people who paid to go to the concert didn't think it was a 'HBC In Need' event.

Deplorable, it should be plastered over the front of the Observer and broadcast by all the local Radio Stations across the length and breath of Lancashire. Tight Bastards.

Cant believe that the council would be so tight fisted that they would charge for a charity event. Another nail in this administrations coffin which even if they did change their minds would be labled as an error by some admin person in the town hall even if the policy was set by those in their crystal and ivory towers.

The words that come to mind over this cannot be typed in a family friendly forum.

Just looking at it from a different point of view.

When do you think they should or should not charge for the hire?
If they don't charge for charity events should they not charge for local community events as well?
Maybe the question should be what events should be chargeable?
If HBC's venues are going to be hired out rent free who is going to pay the staff, cleaners etc? I suppose if we are all agreeable to the cost going on our Council Tax maybe these venues could be made available for free.

If in a good cause that can be justified ie the Cildren in Need Concert then no charge. If the same was applied to all walks of life in choosing what to pay and not to pay the in an extreme case pensioners and the disabled could loose the transport passes that they get. Common sense is needed and a bit more light on the subject from them upon high.
