I had the same grumble at the chicken roasting counter the other night - they don't do them 24 hrs either! We were late, we were tired, we were hungry, and didn't want the hassle of cooking! Grr!

Accrington store, its back to 24 hours shopping now.
Ive spoken to the day manager today and she agrees, anybody wanting to come in at night to buy christmas stuff like cameras should be sold them. I told her the camera was an xmas gift for my partner, who was at home babysitting the kids :D :D :D and it was the sort of thing i cant buy with the kids with me as they would tell "daddy" what i had bought for him .... :D :D :D . Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

Yep they've got a great big sign outside saying 24 hour and even mention photographic section under the big red '24' sign.

What's wrong with wanting a chicken at 8:30pm? If the deli and roast is open there should be stuff on there for buying - especially when you've got a hungry kid to feed!

If they don't want to sell you things at 8:30pm then they shouldn't advertise that they do.

Maybe they'll get the hang of this 24hr business in a bit.
:D

They used to have two different service buses that stopped outside the store. One of those now picks up on the main road only........and the other has just notified the transport authorities that it will no longer go into the car park as in the build up to Christmas, it is taking him 20 mins plus to get round and he is unable to keep to his schedule for the rest of the route:eek:

Well, I actually went to Accy Asda t'other week and cannot agree .. 'tis much better than it was ... at least you have only one way to go in and one way to come out and saves the hold up at the roundabout they had there, that was the problem, at least you know you can keep moving.

Also, I think the re-designed store is great. Met a friend in there who was slightly confused and commented she hated change .. well, I thought was much better and may now stop going to Burnley/Blackburn, will only take a couple of more visits to suss it out.

I have to disagree with you there. The problem wasn't the roundabout, the problem is still there and its the traffic lights for turning right. Because you don't have right of way and have to wait for all the cars coming from Blackburn Road. Your lucky if you can get one car out at a time. They really need a filter light on there.

But i do agree with you about inside, I really like the new look. Also George is much bigger which is great.

Yeh, Lolly have to agree re. the lights, but one step at a time I suppose .. just I went at a time I used to go when couldn't get off for at least 20 minutes and was hassle free. Maybe putting a filter to turn right longer could be the answer.

As for the humps Busman, you should know better ... :D they are not too high and do work to slow people down for safety .. just that you are driving
your car I suppose and not a large coach, which hardly feels a twinge.. :p

Whoops sorry, was Thindle that was grousing about these, apologies Busman.. tee hee.

I agree with you 100% Ian. I think the car park is far worse now that you have to do a circular tour of it to get off and everybody reversing out of spaces holds everybody else up. That never used to happen before to the extent it does now. It feels far more dangerous to be crossing the car park on foot to get to your car now too.

I usually go asda early morning approx 6am the other week the assistant on the cooked meat section had just finished putting her shop in order, so to speak, and when I asked for some she said with a great yawn "sorry not open yet" I am rapidly falling out with the place.

Suppose they should state, 'not all services available'. Understand not viable to offer some of these 24 hours, like not much fresh veg., on a Sunday. Has always rattled me, but Jimmy4bellies experience on electrics seems a little unwise. Have they opened the pharmicist yet ? Can't see this being open 24 hours either .. not an easy task to get qualified people to work a night shift.

OK, maybe will be open then.

Don't know why you couldn't get cooked chicken either Willow at 8.30 p.m., that's the time lots of us go out for meals after all, and think could do quite well from people coing back from a day out.

Perhaps some management from AccyAsda will read this and take note. Wouldn't surprise me, as they are probably still on a learning curve with this, so let's give them a chance, eh ?

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

Pharmacy is open till 11 weeknights and then obviously till closing on Sat night and Sunday teatime.

As willow said, the flow of the carpark seems all wrong, they sort of let you in, you all fan out for teh first bit then are bottlenecked back together and only one route in/out for what must be >66% of the carpark. With People reversing out of spaces holding everyone up.

Still, I'll continue to park on electricity street and walk teh hundred yards or so, that way I can get out quickly and easily

silvermain 27-11-2006 12:36

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

Why oh why do people on here moan about this? Its not bloody hard to drive into a car park and out is it? And so what if they could have got you out 3 seconds quicker its not like your all in a massive rush now is it. Its a store that they will run as they see fit and no amount of posts on here along the lines of "oh no i find it hard to understand the new car park" or " i cant find the beans" etc will make any difference.

WillowTheWhisp 27-11-2006 13:08

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

It isn't hard to understand the car park. It doesn't exactly need an Einstein and no maybe the extra time taken to get off shouldn't affect most of us but it obvously upsets the bus schedules enough that they are now no longer going onto the car park. That may not bother you but it does mean that the people who use those bus services which tend to be 90% elderly people now have to walk through the car park and out of the car park to catch their buses. They have my sympathy.

Also for anyone without ther own transport to have gone out especially to purchase something from this 24 hour supermarket which proudly displays its 24 hour status only to find that althugh the shop itself is open the department they want isn't, it's a bit of a bind to then have to make ther way home empty handed.

It may not affect you personally too much silvermain, and in our case we mananged to survive without the chicken but I'm not one of the "I'm alright Jack" types who doesn't care about this being far harder for some people than it is for me. I still think there's an accident waiting to happen with people reversing into a constant stream of traffic too. I only hope it doesn't involve a small child.

silvermain 27-11-2006 13:33

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

Oh dont get me wrong im not like that at all and if you knew me off here then im sure you would agree. On the point of the elderly bus service maybe they could have made a stop at the top of i thinkits electricity street. So that the elderly only need to walk along the front. Not great but better i think. And on the subject of reversing out into traffic. We had to do that before like nearly all car parks. And all they would say on the 24 hour service is that you can still buy items all day, maybe not all items but most. Not sticking up for them just saying what they would.

I'm not on about the disabled, I'm talking about those people who areperfectly capable of walking into the town centre or ASDA and walking back with their shopping, several times a week if need be. It's called exercise.

Bloomin heck Mr T, a lot of people do their main weakly shopping there. It would take me about 4 trips in a day there and back if I had to walk. I only have 1 pair of hands ;)

But that would make me hungry and then I'd have to buy extra food and that would mean extra transportation of goods and that would mean more wagons on the roads and that would mean more exploitation of the farmers/food suppliers by WalMart and its ilk and thats bad so I'll just drive thanks :D

Its got a vauxhall badge on the front for a start, no decent size engine option, its made from tinfoil, its horrible to drive. its a magnet for additional pieces of plastic, neon lights seem to weld themselves to the underneath and no-one seems able to fit a decent stereo system that isn't distorting the sound till its sounds like a cello blowing raspberries. :D

Corsas are garbage. Are you happy now?

Lets get back to the main subject, namely that of ASDA. Personally, I try and avoid the place as much as possible. I would much rather put money into the pockets of the small Accrington stallholder than those of the bloated fat-cats of the Walmart Corporation of America. At the same time, I dispense with all the unneccessary wrapping & packing and thus try and reduce the cost of garbage collection within HBC. I also walk into town, and depending on the load, walk back or catch a thing called a bus, thus further helping to protect the environment.

No wonder Accy has one of the country's highest obesity rates with attitudes such as those posted on here.

WillowTheWhisp 27-11-2006 14:29

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

The thing called a bus is not going into the ASDA carpark at present as previously reported.

You are fortunately one of those fit enough to be able to walk back and forth to ASDA, not everyone is but unfortunately there are plenty of people with an "I'm alright Jack" attitude like yours.

If I'm lucky they are every 30 mins or so to town from where I live then its about 10 mins walk to asda, so to do a full shop I could end up with 5 mins walk to bus stop, up to 30 mins wait at one end, 10 mins to town, 10 mins walk, 60 mins shopping, carrying 3 ton of shopping back to bus station(15 mins), wait for bus again, probably 10-15 mins, 10 mins bus ride, 5 mins walk to my house.

or jump in car, 10 mins there (oh and I can choose which supermarket, Tescos would be even longer by bus), 60 mins shop, put stuff in car and 10 mins home.

Now I like to support local traders where possible and much prefer shopping on markets and taking my hypothetical asda shop detailed above, I can goto Bury market and do it all there quicker than catching a bus to asda. which is preferable then, using my car to support local traders(oh and teh quality of goods is far superior on Bury market) or trying to be green by using public transport to shop at WALMart.(BTW, my car is far greener than most being LPG)

You are fortunately one of those fit enough to be able to walk back and forth to ASDA, not everyone is but unfortunately there are plenty of people with an "I'm alright Jack" attitude like yours.

The reason "I'm all right" is that I make an effort and walk around the market to buy most items that are otherwise available at ASDA. The last time I looked, the bus station was right next door to the market, so I cannot see any excuse there.

Aside from the issues of choice and mobility, I really do not see any other reason for people to shop in ASDA. The quality of their fresh produce - veg, fruit, meat, fish is rubbish and possibly their only saving grace is their cheap clothes range. Still, waste your money there if you wish, but don't complain when you do.

Are you talking about Accy market???????????

I wish they did have everything I need to buy. I would gladly shop there if it were the case.

Ah well, I tend to look at things from the point of view of the person who is having difficulties rather than saying it doesn't affect me so I don't care. Those 'little scooter thingies' aren't cheap and nowhere near all elderly people need to use them.

Accy 'market' is quite simply rubbish.

Bury market is a different league

You know if we all just accepted whatever we were fobbed off with, without having a moan about thngs we don't like then we'd end up going from bad to worse because 'they' would know we would accept any old rubbish without complaint. But hey ho pass me Peter Britcliffe's rosy specs and no doubt all will be hunky dory.

Which proves my point exactly - this is what happens when local people do not support their local market. Still, I prefer to use what's left than to shop in ASDA.

Its quite a while since I visited Bury market. I think I'll give it a try this Christmas.

I have a feeling you'l;l love it and then Accy market is truely doomed

It's not the lack of customers that has ruined Accy market. People are prepared to travel to other markets but ours has been decimated.

Have you tried walking across Asda carpark lately. Not enough pedestrian areas. I can barely make it to my car never mind all the way across. You've got to try and manoevre your trolley between the cars, which are parked to close together ( I blame the white lines).

A manager has rang me about my complaint. They say if you want any camera's or camera related stuff they cant sell after 8.30pm. They say the reason for this is the till on the camera stall prints your guarantee. Well looking at my printout on my receipt when i went back the day after, its just like any other checkout receipt.
What a load of bull.
I dread the carpark layout come christmas week  , i guess this christmas will let ASDA know if all the money they spent on the changes to it is going to work.

If that's the sort of bull**** you feed them why do you expect them to treat you any better ? They've heard it all before.

Because i wanted the camera there and then as thats what i had gone for ! why should i have to make a return trip when its advertised as 24 hours.

as asda is virtually on my doorstep, i still only use it in emergency sorry katex its crap, the carpark is WORSE than it ever was and as for 1 thing at a time pmsl its took 20 bloody years to make it worse- i aint got that long left. on a brighter note tried tesco at dingleland on monday for the first time, excellent wide isles so you can move around, under cover carpark so you dont get pi** wet through when it rains, enough space between the checkout tills, got to hold me hands up the dingletesco wins hands down.;)

I can understand your point, even if others can't. The place advertises 24 hour services. They don't say it's limited and they don't say you can only buy cameras up to 8pm so you go down to the shop on purpose specifically to buy a camera and they tell you you can't have one at that time. Of course you have a right to grumble. It's like the library saying they are open on Wednesday mornings but you can't borrow any books then.

Re: Just Been To ASDA and Im Not Happy

I agree with Jimmi & Willow. If it says 24 hours then unless it states somewhere that some services will not be avaliable then it should be. I'm pretty sure that nowhere does it say all services will not be avaliable. I once went on my way home from work at 2am and wanted some ciggies, the kiosk was closed so i went to customer services and asked if it was possible to get some, the lad there sighed and rolled his eyes and stomped over to the kiosk and slammed my fags down on the counter. To be honest i'd have prefered someone nice saying "No, sorry the kiosk isn't open at night" They should state what is open and what isn't at certain times.
