Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Wow 10 minutes and no responses to the "like least" list. So glad you were having a difficult time thinking of anything to dislike about the good old U.S.;) (I know it's probably because some folks are away at the moment but was happy the system wasn't blown for all those trying to jump on the anti-U.S theme)
So anyhow, what do you more kind chaps like best about over here? I will start this one: 1. The beauty/variety of the land, 2. The freedoms allowed it's citizens, 3. The general "goodness/kindness" of the people. Brian |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Hate:
1. The way a president can do what he likes and have to answer to nobody as long as he acts within the US consitution (which we all know has 1000loopholes because of how vague it is. e.g. He cant arrest "terrorists" without charge ... yet he does it in cuba off american soil. 2. A lot of the people (note I didnt say all) in the country are ignorant towards the rest of the world. 3. The american political system is about as corrupt as you can get What I like 1. Jack Daniels. 2. Ben & Jerrys 3. Subway :p |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
I can only think of one thing I don't like ....... Not all, but a good majority of Americans don't half have a stick up their a**e. ;)
The one think I really do admire though is your patriotism. :) |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
1. I dont live there
2. Its far away 3. It as an idiot leading the rest of them |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Likes-
1/ Coffee cups that are always refilled, at no extra cost, and without having to wave at a waiter for ten minutes. 2/ Great American writers and playwrights like Eugene O'Neil, Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, James Baldwin, Alice Walker. The list is endless. 3/ New York nightclubs. The most hedonistic, and most fashionable in the world. Though do check before hand, as the next time you visit the one that was 'the' place to go six months ago, is now a social leper colony, if the bridge and tunnel people have latched onto it. Dislikes- Jewish New York women who go shopping in Burberry suits and wear training shoes. Rudest people on earth. Who, if you keep up the charm offensive, rather than argue with them, which they would prefer, eventually show you a modicum of respect for your perseverance. |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
1. The politness of the people and good behaviour of the children (OK .. never bin to New York which I suspect is not a true reflection of America)
2. Although generally, the food 'aint brilliant in the Supermarkets (yes Asda here better for fresh veg., etc than the Wallmarks over there) the steaks are definitely to die for, and the barbecues put on by residents are brilliant. 3. They just love us British. 'Course every state is so varied, isn't it ? and a BIG country so impossible to generalise .. I love it, and would love to drive from East to West taking in all the wonderful scenery, on uncluttered roads .. Mmmm, maybe next year. I say 'God bless America' .. not the politics of course. Leave that one to Cyfr. |

Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Does it realy matter, you will meet the same cross section of people in any country you care to visit, the good, the bad, the indifferent. The USA is just a little more cosmopolitan than others, judge not, but take as you find, and may you find it as you yourself would seek to be judged.

1. All that great rock 'n' roll and rhythm & blues music from the 50's and 60's.
2. Fantastic food, especially Mexican, and decent helpings. 3. Being able to go out at night in city centres for a meal and a few beers without being harrassed by drunken, abusive yobs. |

Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Bullseyebarb , sorry but I find it a bit disingenous to use comments from a conservative/right wing group to justify your arguments, the same folks who are responsible for the current mess we now find ourselves in.

As opposed to a socialist/left wing group - which I am sure you would prefer. If I could find one that made any sense to me, I might post a link occasionally. I assume the "mess" you are referring to is the war against Islamic extremism and Iraq in particular. Let us not forget that it was President Clinton's policy that there should be regime change in Iraq. Every major intelligence agency in the world thought Saddam had WMD. Both Democrats and Republicans were in agreement. If you read speeches and comments made by Democrats prior to 9/11 and for some time thereafter, they are exactly the same as those being said by Republicans and President Bush. Convenient to forget these things, I guess, when the road gets a little rocky. |
Re: Top 3 List - Like Most about the U.S.
Bullseyebarb , I guess we should start another thread on this subject before we get into bother for wandering off topic .........

This was has been a massive balls-up and one that our kids will be paying for very dearly. "Incurious George" wanted to be a wartime leader and simply ignored anything he did not want to hear - like the wise words of General Poewll. Obvious that some folks spent more time absent from their military obligations than they ever did learning the lessons of Vietnam. I had a bad opinion of stupid George before the 2000 election and he has, sadly, moe than lived up to my expectations. Can't wait to see him leave office. It will go down in history as one of the worst presidencies in our history. Sad, really, what happened to the once-great party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt! |
