Caravans On Motorways In Gale Force Winds.

this afternoon, winds being as they are why people dare to drive down the motorway with them. Passed about 4 on the way to Blackpool. They was being blown all over the place causing other motorists to swerve on the occasion.
So, im wondering, if you choose to take a caravan out in gale force winds would your insurance company cover all costs if you had an accident.

Even HGV's were very sparce today.Must have seen about 5, thats all. The mind boggles, just shows how many idiots are around on the roads today.

A caravan and galeforce winds is a recipe for disaster. When HGV's are scarce on a road you know its too damned dangerous. Only the totally loopy or desperate take a caravan out in this weather. As for the insurence it would take a hell of a lot of explaining as to why you had your "box home" on the road.

Absolutly stupid.....
we went away in ours a few weeks ago ,but we would have cancelled without doubt if forecasts of gusty winds , even check return journey before we set off and even the slightest chance of winds and we wouldnt risk it .

I've witnessed this too, could the drivers be done for dangerous driving?

Dont think its classed as dangerous driving as any responsible caravaner would have a stablizer fitted , but I do agree its still dodgy to even contemplate taking one on the road in this weather

I went to Liverpool this aft.. m65, m6, m58 for everton v doncaster bells (pics on my site) and I was driving a renault sceneic.. I kid you not it scared the hell out of me a couple of times.. I thought I had a puncture or summat... driving along and all of a sudden the wind hits and it feels like somehting real bad has gone wrong... second of panick before you realise big gust of wind..

Can't imagine same thing with a bloomin caravan on back :(

I'd have thought most people would have their caravans in storage by now for the winter.
