In my opinion (no im not asking for a debate-just saying my piece) it depends on the situation.
Unfortunatly i have a few friends who dont flinch at the idea of an abortion, and come out with the excuse 'i did it for the 4 children i already have'-after the 3rd abortion(even after medical proffesionals have warned them that any more terminations could really cause damage to themselves and pressure them about contraption).
Then i have friends who know they are not ready and cannot afford to have a child(have been on the pill since school and recently fallen pregnant by genuine mistake) and have gone through hell knowing they cannot have a child but dont want to terminate but circumstance means they feel they have to.
Some people i accept their reason for termination but others i dont even comment because i would lose friends.

Re: abortions?

Personally I believe it should come down to what the woman decides as she is the one who will be bringing the child up.

Panther, you say medical reasons, what would your thoughts be if your daughter was raped at the age of 18 and had hoped to go to university so she decided to abort?

It is not an easy subject my wife and myself had to go through a similar decision when we discovered she was carrying a child that had severe spina-bifida and was suffering as well with hydracephalus, basically he would have had no quality of life so we decided to terminate. Not an easy decision and we still carry it with us every day.

There is no yes or no but at the end of the day only the one who is pregnant and carrying the child can have the final say.

I am pro-choice, but I don't think anyone should make a decision like that lightly. It shouldn't be seen as an excuse to not bother using protection just because you could have an abortion.

that i would agree with! I couldnt bring a child into this world as a result from a rape! but these days you can get the morning after pill in case!
as for your case I would have done the same.

I just dont agree with girls/women having abortions cuz they 'made a mistake'

Then why not clarify that in your first post? As I said when you start talking about abortions you start on a very difficult subject.

On a slightly different tack how come pro capital punishment people tend to be against abortions carte blanche due to the fact it is taking a life? Sorry but the word hypocrite comes screaming at me.

I also think mothers who desert their child are just as bad!

Well what a difficult thread and post to make!

I went for my first scan on Thursday i was 11 weeks pregnant with 3rd baby wanted very much we had been trying since December we managed to get pregnant in September we were soo excited,

Like i said i went for my first scan on Thursday only to be told that my baby was the size of a 9 week old and that its heart had stopped beating at around 9 weeks. I didnt have a clue i had no pain and no bleeding i couldnt believe what she was saying to me i had a picture from the scan and it looks perfect soo cute.

The midwife said my bodys not accepting i have lost the baby and is still feeding it thats why i still feel pregnant! I have been told to give it till Thursaday and see if my body rejects it on its own if not then medical intervention will be needed same thing as what happends when you have an abortion!.

I just cant see at the moment how people can just kill or get rid of children or the makings of them when there are people around who are trying and trying for children all the people who cant have them i know its not their problem but i just think for the right reasons then fair enough but just for the sake of it is wrong.

What a simple sentence, what a simple question, but I wonder, how many of our female members have been faced with this question and gone one way or the other? Some will be glad they took the chance of aborting, others may well regret that they did so.

I can't imagine anyone that is faced with such a decision could possibly answer within such a short confine as how you so uncaringly asked the question, such an important statement but no reasons for why your against?
No thought towards how the other person may be in such a situation as to why they may need an abortion? If I was you I would be thanking my God that I had never had to make that decision rather than putting forward such a guilt raking announcement that could well upset people less fortunate than yourself.

Well said. There are many reasons why someone may wish to abort and many reasons why they may decide not to do so. In the end, it is always a highly personal decision and one that is best left to the woman in question. I favor the right to choose for a number of reasons. Firstly, it leaves the decision in with the person best able to judge. Secondly, it keeps the government out of this highly personal area. Finally, for those women who chooose to abort, it allows them to do it legally and with appropriate medical assistance.
