Cruelty or Just Publicity?

So how many chinchillas does it take to make a fur coat?

The RSPCA have condemned Madonna for wearing the coat made from chinchilla fur, saying that she has such a huge media profile, she's giving the masses the message that real fur is back in fashion and its OK to kill for a coat.

You'd think that she might try and keep a low profile after the baby adoption story. Surely Madonna is many things but she isn't stupid, she must have known when she stepped out in a real fur coat the publicity would be negative.

Pretty hypocritical of her also, wasn't she a vegetarian not long ago?

paris thinks its ok to kill for a coat or anything when the sales are on.:D

Re: Cruelty or Just Publicity?

She might not do if she sees how the animals are killed to make these coats cashy ;)

I wouldn't wear one with a 90% reduced price sticker on it

WillowTheWhisp 11-12-2006 22:27

Re: Cruelty or Just Publicity?

If it's real then I'd say it takes a fair few chinchilla's to make a full length coat.

Tinkerbelle 11-12-2006 22:28

I'd guess at quite a few hundred Willow, they're only little things.

Well madonna is going down the wrong line, shes pushed boundaries for a long time & is not the 1st time shes upset part of media for her antics, obviously didnt watch celeb BB when Pete Burns got done & percecuted for his monkey coat - oh mind u shes banned tv in her house said in interview after lil lad was born that she doesnt encourage tv for him or Lourdes because tv/media is badly influencial & corruptive  yet she earns a fair bit of money herself corrupting & using the media that funds her lifestyle propably resposnsible for currupting others, yes she was a vegan so i heard.

Things must be pretty bad for madge to need to lower herself & her principles to sell herself!! I still cant get over how much she charges for concerts nevermind owt else....... Bad publicity must be beter than non but surely she dont need it at all.

This is just another element of the so called personalities seeking attention. This woman knew what she was doing when she took control of another individual’s life and removed the child for his family and culture; it gave her maximum public exposure. Wearing a Chinchilla Coat will gain her the same maximum public exposure………She’s getting long in the tooth these days, whipping her tits out won’t hack it for her……..

Exactly Mel, the way she harps on I thought wearing real fur would have totally been against her principles.

It's about time we had a fur trade ban in this country. There is just no need to wear real fur in this day and age!

Don't suppose that the coat is not actually real fur and that Peta are after some publicity ?

From what I can see they are also complaining about gay sheep trials. What are the Welsh and Yorkshireman going to do for fun if they succeed

There has to be better ways for here to keep herself in the news without all this controversy. Is she that desperate or just wanting to pee people off?

If that was the case don't you think she would have sued for libel? That would have gained her good publicity.

Re: Cruelty or Just Publicity?

Wrapped up in the fluffiest fur, Madonna could not have looked cosier. But her choice of coat sent a chill through animal rights groups. The coat, by the Fendi design house, cost around £35,000 - and the lives of 60 chinchillas.....

Thats from the daily mail last week.

Tinkerbelle 11-12-2006 23:56

sorry im with you guys on this false fur only or nothing ......Ive seen enough doc s on telly to make me sick with what they do to these poor animals ....

One thing killing for food with cattle and all but for fashion ...grrrr NO WAY ACCEPTABLE

chav1 12-12-2006 02:33

Re: Cruelty or Just Publicity?

aww chinchillas are cute and i would never wear a coat made from them

however

cats have some nice colours and patterns and i wouldnt give a hoot if a million were slaughtered to make somone a coat

my point is that if somone was wearing a coat made from slugs people wouldnt be as upset as seeing a coat made from somthing cute and cuddly

unless of course you like slugs :)

take a look and see how animals are slaughtered and see if you still fancy a burger afterwards ;-)

WillowTheWhisp 12-12-2006 09:15

Re: Cruelty or Just Publicity?

I would like to think that animals are slaughtered humanely in this modern society. I have nothing against eating or wearing anything which has been slaughtered humanely. In fact if you're going to kill a thing use as much of it as possible. The skinnng alive type stuff that goes on though there is no excuse for at all.

I'm surprised the other McCartney/Mills hasn't jumped on a bandwagon to condemn her, just for the positive publicity. It can't be 12 month ago since she did that documentary with Paul regarding fur trade.

Stella's late Mum, Linda McCartney, seemed fairly committed to animal rights though, and didn't seem to be in it for any glory.

There are exceptions to every circumstance Mandy, so don’t start nit picking. I didn’t mention Linda McCartney, apart from being an excellent photographer in her own right; she was also a very decent woman who didn’t live the need to chase publicity.
