Preserving Posterity

So often memorabilia from our family's and close friend's past gets lost to history. That is precisely why I started the threads on this Forum and elsewhere relating to the WW2 British Home Front and Unsung Allied Heroes of WW2 -- so I could record the stories and capture the images of those times and people before they became lost to history. But I only realized the need for this in my later years -- I was actually in my mid 70s when I embarked on this mission. I imagine that happens to many people -- the sense of urgency only takes hold when we are facing our own mortality. Incidentally, as my postings reached the hundreds, it became obvious that I needed to find a way to organize them in logical, easily updatable and manageable documents that could be printed out and preseved for posterity. The result of that endeavor were two Web pages: Ww2 British Home Front and Unsung Heroes of WW2 -- please visit them at your convenience.

I encourage everyone to undertake the same kind of project relating to their own family and close friends before it gets too late. The internet facilitates this in some wonderous ways -- these kinds of projects would have been very difficult to accomplish just a few short years ago.

James

Hopefully, others will contribute their own experiences and materials -- I would be most happy to compose Web pages for them -- or to assist them in producing their own -- to record their stories and store and present them via my own server if need be (at least temporarily). Time is running short: WW2 British Homefront survivors are dying at an alarming rate every day.
