Rat Run

Some of you might remember that my dad was run over in front of the town hall where it is a bus only zone. Well the council messed about for ages and they rejected ideas such as temporary traffic lights ect, and the police have done nothing about cars going through as I have often seen them drive through and the police standing there take not one bit of notice.

Well.. last week I saw someone get booked by a police officer for doing it, apparently there have been lots of complaints so the police are actually doing something about it, finally!

Re: Rat Run

about time especialy with the nativity been so close to the road which is a bit dodgy considering children like to look at the nativity and all teh extra peopel around christmas shopping

all we need now is for teh buses to slow down you would think after that woman got ran over and killed on teh zebra crossing by a bus in the same area bus drivers would drive more carefuly in teh center of town

on a similar note had to give the thumbs up to a traffic warden in ozzy for booking some pillock in his black 4x4 yesterday who thought that the big red box saying bus stop in it meant it was a parking space reserved for him :D :D :D :D

if teh owner of said vehicle is reading thanx for providing me with a good laugh

About ruddy time as well.

I wonder how much grief the police were getting over it?

Its sad when it needs huge amounts of public pressure and some media interest to get something done that should be done without a second thought. Or is it that when it comes down to traffic offences they prefer speeeders as they make more money of them??

Re: Rat Run

At last! It's about time they took action. It's not as if the signs are difficult to see is it?

Re: Rat Run

What bugs me about the 'rat run' is that it is clearly signed, no entry buses only, the people who drive through have a complete disregard for the law, usually taxi drivers who wish to make their own rules, or just bone idle drivers who go in the car to the corner shop. Mr Britcliffe either open it up, or put some auto bollards only the buses can operate at the entrance!

LOL! I'm for the automatic bollards too :D I can't think of a better way to spend a day than sat giggling at all the cars impaled on those things. It would definately make shopping more interesting

The only problem being that private coach companies and National Express in particular legitimately use Accy bus station and I can't see such companies covering the expense of fitting ALL their fleet with the electronics required to lower the bollards, they would simply bypass Accy altogether. :(

Re: Rat Run

They can go round..... Up passed La di das, left at the NHS building along Paradise Street, left at the mini roundabout down Church St onto the bus station.

Where there's a will there's a way, or in this case maybe two.

Re: Rat Run

just an observation, if you come down dutton street to drop someone, it can be very difficult to turn a car especially a large one around on the street, so people turn right at the bottom to get out.if the dickheads in the town hall made it no parking at the bottom of the street put a couple of bollards also down there=problem solved.

entwisi 21-12-2006 07:26

Re: Rat Run

As far as I know, its perfectly acceptable to turn right at the bottom of dutton street. Its turning left that we are wingeing about :D

WillowTheWhisp 21-12-2006 08:19

Re: Rat Run

You are not actually supposed to go right or left there. Someone could just as easily be knocked down in front of 'Help the Aged'. :(

entwisi 21-12-2006 08:41

Re: Rat Run

BUt isn't that bit under a different restriction? IIRC teh buses only bit is only signposted for teh bit infront of teh Town Hall, not the Market Hall, I seem to recall its a no vehicles except for access and I'm pretty certain there isn't a similar sign at the top of dutton street so its a valid route out.

could well be entwi, but aint that the sheer stupidity of allowing it?

WillowTheWhisp 21-12-2006 12:30

Re: Rat Run

I think the access to that bit is for loading and unloading only but I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm down there if I can remember.

entwisi 21-12-2006 12:58

I think teh unloading bit is for the bit at the side of the market hall

Re: Rat Run

I'm sure theres no restrictions on Dutton St and you can turn right at the bottom
