School 'Bans Disabled Boy.

A DISABLED seven year old boy was threatened with a ban from his school Christmas party because he asked to be excused from its Hindu festival. The boys Christian parents feared he would become distressed by the religions assertation that his disabilaty was a punishment for sins of a previous life. The wheelchair bound schoolboy was left in tears when his headteacher publicly announced that if he did not take part in the Diwali celebrations he could not come to the party. She was forced to back down after the boys parents complained to the council, and he was allowed to attend the party. the headteacher of the school which has no Hindu pupils apologised to the family but said she never intended to carry out her threat. Unfortunatley the damage has been done. I am not racist person but I could become one. What was this stupid woman thinking about?

Utterly disgusting ! Pity you could not name the school. The head teacher needs repremanding over the coals for that.

I have the names of all parties including the school, but thought better than to name them on here. Full story Saturdays Daily Express page 31 ,23/12/06.

I read this story with disbelief yesterday and like you was angry at the blinkered attitude of the Head teacher.

She was right to teach and demonstrate world religions but is showing a distinct lack of knowledge on her part.......a case of the teacher is always right even if they are wrong:(

I enjoyed the obvious embarassment she must have gone through with her "climb down" :D

Re: School 'Bans Disabled Boy.

The reason the parents asked for their quadraplegic son to be excused from attending the Diwali celebration was their knowledge that the Hindu teachings regarding karma and reincarnation are that if a person is born disabled it is seen as a punishment for sins committed in a previous life. You'd think the teachers would have had the sense to realise that including a severely disabled child in such a subject would be the height of insensitivity. But no, they add insult to injury by then publicly humiliating the lad.

the teacher should be sacked its absolutley dosgraceful that she chose to threaten a child that way never mind a disabled child

Not sure I follow that, is it majority rule then ?

My daughter sees her mother about 3 times a year but she has to make a card.
