Hypnotism

I was watching this you tube video which has been hanging around my desktop for some weeks

.......and wondered if any accyweb members have been hypnotised and if so, what are your experiences?

Personally, I could never allow myself to be hypnotised as I hate being "not in control." For this reason, I will allow myself to get tipsy, but never too drunk that I am unaware of what I am doing.

Tell us about YOUR experiences with hypnotism:eek:

ps: This thread is NOT about the validity of the hypnotist on the film

i,m with you on this busman,i would never allow myself to be hypnotised, though for slightly differant reasons, i think and have read that it can be dangerous in some circumstances so on that basis alone- sod it.;)

I've never been hypnotised unless you count the "guided meditation" which was part of a relaxation course I went on once. I never found out what happened as we closed our eyes and wandered through a garden - I always fell asleep! Maybe I was too relaxed. :D

Re: Hypnotism

I was sent to a hypnotherapist when I was ten.

I had this morbid terror of dogs, and would rather walk over dark fields, rather than past the farm across the road, where there was a snappy little dog. It really became a big problem, and was stopping me from doing normal children's activities.

My parents took me to a hypnotherapist, who I think is still practicing in Blackburn. After two sessions I was 'cured', and now adore dogs. I don't remember much about it except I had to imagine a fluffy puppy in a box somewhere I felt safe, which in my imagination was the Church Hall.

God, I was a challenging kid.:D

Re: Hypnotism

Those medical hypnotherapy sessions aren't like stage hypnotism. You don't totally lose control and you are aware of what's going on. The stage hypnotism I don't think I would like either.

Agreed. He didn't get me to bark, or cock my leg. Well not that I remember!:D

I think people that go and get up, and be hypnotised on stage, are extroverts who enjoy the limelight, and are highly susceptible to being controlled into making fools of themselves.

You said if you don't want to be hypnotised you can't be, what if someone tried to do it and you didn't know, could they?

How do we know we haven't been? Perhaps at this very moment we are all doing someone's bidding.

I think you have to be open to it.

People just clicking their fingers and putting people under is rubbish.

Now look into my eyes, just my eyes.

Now give me all your money.:D

I would absolutely love to be 'regressed' into a previous life or whatever. Stage hypnotism where they just try and make fun of you doesn't interest me but if I could be taken back I'd love to know what happened 'before' I was born.

What would you do then especially if you found out you were around at the time of the cave men and nowt between then and now?

Once in a club in Scotland & this hypnotist got several volunteers up.After all were put under he told them to imagine they were having the best sex they'd ever had:eek: One unfortunate girl just led there motionless whilst the rest writhed around in ecstasy.Okay it was alaugh at the time but looking back you wonder about morals & exploitiveness at these stage hypnotists.

Re: Hypnotism

I had a friend who was once hypnotised at a pub it was supposed to be a bit of fun. But after they were brought out of the hyponitic state. His behaviour changed and he was sat having a drink then he just went into a trance. I do think this is a very dangerous practise especially when it is done by perhaps someone who is not fully trained. After all it is your mind that they are playing with, and everyone's brain works and reacts differently to certain circumstances. so I would never allow myself to be hypnotised. You also have to be open to it in order for it to work, as their were a few who on the stage who did not come under the spell if you do not believe or do not let yourself become hypnotised.

Fair enough, but after a few drinks in a club(a night club at that,so they'd had a few before they got there)the dutch courage to volunteer had kicked in,and thier judgement not to clear. And how safe is it to hypnotise someone whose had a skinful?

I'm always askin' people who have had a skinfull to take their clothes off and bark like a dog. Most oblige, and you don't need hypnosis to achieve it.:D

Re: Hypnotism

I've never been hypnotised, but when we were on holiday one year a member of our group was chosen to be hypnotised by the stage act. The hypnotist had him doing the usual stupid things. Afterwards though, our friend said he really hadn't got a clue and it wasn't 'put on'. So he was either genuinely hypnotised or a good liar
