OK we are straying off thread, but .....yep I have to agree, no-one has tried to give smoking more than me , every time with no success, and I have to admit I am a "victim" , dont blame me because I am addicted to the things, it's not my fault, blame the Govt. for allowing these things to be available.:rolleyes:
Comparing addiction to any substance to gluttony is like comparing apples to oranges ;)
In fact you can go cold turkey with food , ....its called leftovers ;)

Back to original thread , Oprah Winfrey has come in for some criticism here in the US not because she opted to spend her money in South Africa but the way she pushes her good works on TV show and specials as a modern day Mother Teresa, (she doesn't heal the lame , just pays for an orthopedic surgeon to do the good works , but makes sure a TV camera is available for both before and after shots)
It should also be noted she is from the south , an area devastated over a year ago by hurricane Katrina, to this day both Black and White communities all along the Gulf coast are still sites of devastation and folks still living in tent cities, but it doesn't make for good television viewing figures.
Maybe ,maybe not, Oprah as helped the folks out along the Gulf Coast I dont know, but her comments that African children are more grateful/deserving than American kids I find offensive , her comments that Black American kids are more intersted in ipods and sneakers than getting a decent education is way out of line . (Again it makes better television ,poor black babies, throw in a safari, lions and elephants and you have a great TV show)
Some Black Americans have criticsized her for her harping on about South Africa being her homeland , she has as much in common with the Bantus and Zulus as I being an 'Anglo-Saxon' have with the Greeks or Bulgarians, any African genes she has are from West Africa , remember the TV show 'Roots'

Yes I agree Willow. He may be decended from the black people from Africa, but what Oprah is doing is for Black & White people of South Africa. So I think this "celebrities" PA & Google Page Ranking people need to speak to the client before letting him open his mouth about this sort of subject.

So who was the 'he' who criticised her?

I have no problem if her building a school wherever she likes, is seen as altruistic.

She had a bad start in life, became an actress, started a chat show, realised she was a good business woman, and made a friggin' fortune. It's her money, she can do what she likes with it.

I'm not going to criticise her for what else she may or may not also have done in the US.

Some of the school kids in the UK could do with a dose of this. It portrays as a prison that make ours definately look like holiday camps.
