My mum has had a series RTA

Hi just to let you all know. My mum has not been on accy web now since new years eve. This is because she has had a major car accident.

She was coming back from getting a new car for a friend (((driving him there to get his new car, and following him back behind his car))) when she was about 20minuits away from home when she saw a rabbit on the motoway in her path. typpically my mum being my mum she swearved out of the way to avoid it as she love animals and there for loosing controll of her car and rolling over and colliding with a lamp post at 60+mph. She must have had an angle watching out for her as the car impact on the lamp had just missed her by about 15cm dinting the back seat on the drivers side.

The car folled its self round the lamp-post. If i had been in the car with her like i normmally am (99% of the time) we would of both been dead as they was such a small spacxe in the car as it all folded in on its self.

Anyway my mums friend noticed in his mirror a lamp post light falling and then realised that it was my mum and turned round on the motoway going the wrong way back to her. He got to the car and my mum was upside down being hanged! by her seat belt. He rung 999 and they said to leave her as she was. HE COULD NOT as she was begging him to get her out as she was hanging. so he ripped the windo screen out and and also the door. Whilst doing this he cut all his arm. He pulled her out had car and wrapped a tent round her that we hads in the boot until the paramedic, police and firebagade came. When they did came they thought that she had been flung out of the window but you could tell she ant by the seat belt marks round her neck.

They also thought she was dead and asked for a body bag as my mums friend was leanijng over crying and hugging her in panic. the paramedics then heared her speak and realised she was not and rushed over to her.

She was rushed over to hospital and was xrayed and believed to just have a broken spine. The next day they did another xray and they did not pick uyp that she actully had a broken spine, broken ribbs and also a puctured lung!!!.

My mum is in preston royal hospital on the A+E ward. - She is doing well in recovery and i am proud of her and love her dearly!!!

Yes they do...so try and get some sleep, you'll have to be well and rested to look after her when she comes home.

Hey Alec, so sorry to hear about your Mom. I'm so glad she seems to be doing better and wasn't "as bad" as the paramedics first thought. Things like this remind us how fragile all our lives are eh? Glad you're there for her.

As my Dad used to say to me when I was little and hurt:

Be Strong, Brave, Tough like an Indian (may lose a bit in "translation"):D

Re: My mum has had a series RTA

Oh Alec that sounds absolutely awful :(

I hadn't paid much attention to her not being online because she'd said she was going in hosp for a planned op so I just assumed it was that.

Good job your Mum's friend noticed the lamppost and realised what had happened even though he did go back the wrong way to get to her! Sometimes you just have to do these things. Lucky there weren't any more cars in the way.

I can understand the emergency services saying not to move her as that could cause permanent paralysis if someone has a spinal injury - but when the option is being choked to death by the seatbelt common sense has to take over and I'm sure he did the right thing and probably saved her life.

She certainly must have had an angel watching over her and an angel going back to help her too.

Give her our love and tell her we hope she makes a full speedy recovery.

I know how hard it is to get to sleep when you're worried about someone in hospital. It will probably all catch up on you once she's home :)

Wish her all the best from me as well.

It sounds a very nasty one.

I broke my back in a motorbike accident 4 years ago. its quite a strange and scary feeling being told it when your strapped to a back board in A&E. With lots of support thats available and medical science as it is you can get back to pretty much a full life nowadays.

Alec, I only know your mum from reading her posts on this forum. Looking at the photos, she seems to have been very lucky to get out of that car alive. I'm sure she doesn't feel at all lucky just now but, whatever the future brings, she's still here and she's still got you. That's the important thing.

I hope her recovery is speedy and successful. Best wishes to both of you.
