Old but still the best

Once in a while the TV companies will put on a film made some 40 years ago and it pleased me no end.

This afternoon I was treated to the classic “Charade” starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn plus a few others. Basically it was a whodunit with funny repartee between the two stars.

The film had a beginning, a middle and an end with more twists and turns than a corkscrew yet there were no gaps in the plot that you get in modern films. There was no gratuitous sex or violence and certainly no foul language but the odd fag was consumed. There were no crash, bang, wallop car chases and explosions galore yet there were nerve tingling tension in the right places. Even the adverts didn’t interrupt the ‘flow’ of the story. And that was the difference between modern tales on film to those of yesteryear, apart from the acting. The story line flowed from beginning to end.

The story? Audrey Hepburn (one of the best actresses of all time) came back to her Paris apartment to find it empty of everything and then learned that her husband had auctioned off the whole contents before being thrown off a train and killed. She also learned that three crooks were after quarter of a million dollars that her husband had and she was supposed to have it. Of course she new diddley squat about her husband’s affairs and ……. well you need to see the film to find out.

More please TV companies.

I don't think I've ever seen it. Will watch out for it.

Agree about Audrey Hepburn.

I had the complete honour to meet her when I made her some shirts. Charming and a true star.

It sounds like an excellent film. I've never seen it either but it's just the sort of thing I would have enjoyed. I like storylines that reach a proper conclusion and make sense and especially when they get you thinking and keep you guessing.
