Kicked the habit

Well after 18 years i have finally given up smoking!!!!! (with the help of patches, puffers and my friendly smoking cessation clinic!!):Banane03:

Never thought i'd do it but i always promised myself that i wouldn't smoke when i was 30 and thats getting pretty close now so here goes

I've done a full 8 days 21hours 9 minutes (not that i'm counting)

To be honest it isn't bothering me as much as i thought it would and i can't believe i didn't do it sooner!! Had loads of support from girls at work especially ROMPS!! not too much from friends though, don't visit anymore because they can't smoke but hey!!! rather be lonely and alive!!!

Anyone else taken the plunge??

Smoking is the road to a certain early death, quit and you may buy a few extra years, but one thing for certain you do not want to suffer the most painfull undignified death that goes with SMOKING.

I've said that too. When I've given up in the past I manage alright until it comes to going out, I end up buying a packet of 10 cigarettes and try to just social smoke but it never works. At least when the ban comes in, everywhere you look people won't have a fag in their hand so it should be easier.

Well Done!! I will quit eventually but i'm just not ready to yet, and I know that. Funny thing is I dont smoke at home, because of Harry, so I can go Monday to Friday without one, but as soon as I step foot in work, i'm lighting up, its strange. Dunno what I'll do when the ban comes n though. Smoke outside I suppose.

Good job, TracyO. Keep up the good work and, should you happen to slip, just get back on the no smoking program and keep trying.

We managed to give up for two years but found that it never seemed to get any better and we were both miserable. We cracked whilst on holiday and have smoked ever since.

Living here doesn´t help as they are so cheap. I´m the same as Harwood Red, get me in front of the computer and it´s one after the other.

Good luck Tracy. Proud of you x

Well done TraceyO!
I quit 19 years ago. I had smoked since I was 13/14 and was on 25/30 a day when I quit. It was the best decision that I ever made and something that I attempted many times. In the end I went cold turkey (no patches then). The first 2 weeks were the hardest, slipped up once and then got back on track. There will be times when the cravings try to take over but you will be able to ride them out. THEY DO PASS. It will get easier as time goes on, less cravings and they pass quicker. Good Luck I'm with you all the way. casper x

Well done.:)

Keep at it.

You work with Romps?

She's enough to make you want to smoke.

I love perfuming her hair and clothes with the Alpine freshness of my ciggies.:D

Re: Kicked the habit

You go girl , I do a lot of oil refinery work and fly quite a bit , both places are no smoking zones, and its no problem (same when I worked underground) but as soon as its okay to smoke I light up. To my mind the bl**dy things should have be banned in the 60s when the first warnings came out , every politician elected to national office since then has phlegm on his hands and I've smoked for 40 years ;) ;) ;)

thanks for all the positive posts!! but i agree with the going out business i'm scared stiff of the beer goggles taking over (they've got me in trouble before!!!) Might pay you all a visit on the 27th i'm out for a friends birthday in Ossy so i might just pop in to meet you all. I think i work with half of you just haven't revealed your true identities YET !!!!!!

Well done. Ive tried and tried to give up but I just cant do it. Tried Patches, gum etc.
I just enjoy it too much and living with a moderator there are times when I need it.
NO WILL POWER that's my problem.

Good for you Parky.

Wondered how you'd gone on with it.

Happy birthday by the way.

Didn't start you a birthday thread because I thought you'd hibernated!:D

Well done for quitting. think all that money you will save.

Save it up and after a month go and buy yourself something nice as a reward.

Karma on its way also as a incentive.:)

Re: Kicked the habit

you're brave chopper but i couldn't put my kids through me going cold turkey!! the stress levels are high enough as it is. As for a reward i've booked Disneyland!!!! so i can't afford to smoke now even if i was tempted to light up again!!
went clinic lst night and i'm now officially a non smoker. CO level reads 2 which is a big improvement from 39 which is what i started on!!!
