Suffering for Fashion

Have learnt my lesson re. wearing items of clothing, etc., that make you suffer in silence, but the following brought back memories.

My grandaughter stayed with me last weekend and, think I have mentioned before is a bit of a Goth .. although the feminine type.

We went shopping down Blackburn, and she was wearing a longish black (of course) pencil skirt, laced up either side with satin ribbon. Couldn't understand why she wished to go down the lift from the 2nd floor on the car park .. explained that because of the skirt, could not step wide enough to get up/down stairs .. :D

Although she denied her 4 inch heels, black with skull and cross cutlasses on side were comfortable, couldn't help noticing the wobble now and then .. :D

The best was the new corset .. which cost a fortune !! (£200 +) Must admit she looked stunning, but after some sort of spaghetti dish in Frankie and Bennies, did not come as a surprise that she politely requested that we go soon, as needed me to loosen it in the car .. :D

These corsets are extremely popular now, and wonder if we are going to see a generation of liver damaged young ladies or faintings in the street as in Victorian days.

Re: Suffering for Fashion

I wear shoes that have had the material inside on the heel rubbed off to plastic, so very uncomfortable, because they look good :(

Silly converse :D

I put comfort first these days.

My eldest daughter is one to struggle with shoes that kill her feet because she likes the way they look though.

I'm sure the increase in female binge drinking will take care of that katex!

Just wondered if some items should come with Health warnings.. I have a few friends who are now suffering with bunions/hammer toes 'cause of the stilletoes we used to wear. Isn't there something about bra straps too .. pulling 'em up too tight ? And the waspy belts, gosh, they killed ... and blooming earrings that make yer lobes weep. Think I could go on and on. Not even mentioning thongs.

Yeh, thought somebody might come back with that one, but maybe the new corsets will stop too much of the lager going down .:D

But the problem is all those things won't happen to todays youth, just like things wouldn't happen to you that your parents did :D

Apart from silly shoes and boots that kill my feet I think the worse thing was going out without a coat in freezing temperatures! Ok after about an hour when you have your beer jacket on!:D

Afflecks Palace in Manchester is the best in Lancs, she now goes somewhere in Leeds. There is a shop in the Arndale Blackburn called Hex ?? Small stock, but they had the skirt in the window she was wearing. Also Zodiac in the same Arndale and Zodiac (on the same block as Dorothy Perkins) in Burnley.

If you can make the journey to Man. well worth it .. she will love it.

Tee hee Cashman, glad to hear you men suffer whilst trying to strut about yer peacock feathers, however, whilst you were wearing the winkle pickers,I was suffering with the sugar starched net underskirts scratching the back of me legs ...

As LancsDave says though .. think you are immune when you are young and don't consider the long term damage, do you ?

No !! Only meant have your feet been damaged already and glad to see you have learnt sense .. didn't mean too late to have fun and dress as you wish x

Re: Suffering for Fashion

Oh, I see, sorry, Kate. Yeah, like Mr C, the old Beatle boots did tend to knacker my feet a bit in the 60's. Think that's why these creepers feel so nice! Bought from a shop just round the corner from Affleck's, too!

garinda 22-01-2007 22:28

Re: Suffering for Fashion

I have too many fashion faux pas to list, but here are just a few:-

The full length white coat with photographs of myself sewn on, with poetry in French painted on top to look like blood.

Old man's pyjamas complete with espadrilles, worn in the snow, which disintigrated the rope soles by the time I got to college.

Boot polish worm in the shape of sunglasses, that wouldn't wash off.

A tunic which had both foot long nipples and a phallus, with the word SEX painted on the front, made out of 50's curtains.

A sari, worn with Docs.

A suit knit on broomsticks, that looked likle seaweed.

A plastic pac-a-mac, painted with a swastika and a star of David.

This all period was crammed into a five year period, after which I discovered that it was much more fun to tell people what to wear, than to wear it myself.:D

Re: Suffering for Fashion

forgot to mention the winklepickers not only crucified my feet, but when they rubbed they gave me very painful corns on my little toes, which became even more painful when i cut em off with a razor blade after copious amounts of bitter.:D

I had a pair of those too. When they came in briefly with the New Wave thing.

My size 10's, double G fittings, forced into the most unnatural point imaginable.

I still have the bunions to prove it.:o

kind of topical , a 15 year old lad tried to dye his hair and is head swelled up to football size
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/6287901.stm

my question is .......why would a 15 yr old lad want to dye his hair ? and why would the lads parents think it okay ?
he should be out playing football not dying his bloody hair .

ok , I've become my Grandad ;) :D

When they shaved his head when he went into the Army, it looked dark because it was so short. Check photos pre '55 to see I'm telling the truth. It was Col. Tom Parker who got him to first dye it black, and wanabes around the world followed.

Saved you a search. This is his natural dark blond hair, even though the Brylcreem has darkened it.

I've just googled this bra and found myself on a website showing Triumph bras. I had to laugh at the name Doreen in contrast to the others.

Romantic Desire

Angel Curves

Amourette

Dreamy Emotion

Doreen. :D:D
