Giving Blackburn + Burnley some respect?

Blackburn with darwen + burnley have been selected as a "respect" area

i thought hyndburn wud b up there too tbh...

The government has announced 40 "respect zones" in England which will receive extra funding to fight anti-social behaviour. They will provide parenting classes, meetings between police and the public and "intervention projects", to tackle so-called "neighbours from hell".
Prime Minister Tony Blair said that "nothing works" if communities are not involved in fighting crime.
But the Tories dismissed the zones, which will get £6m, as a "gimmick".

I wonder how much of that 6 million 'Our Leader' will get to squander, maybe a roof over Broadway. If there is 6 million going begging he'll have us merged with Blackburn with Darwen as soon as you can say Chav.

perhaps this should be noted on all HBC letter heads

"One of the few towns in the NW that isn't a respect zone!" :D

Should have them flocking here

Perhaps we should be proud that we aren't one of those singled out for this Government honour.

To be honest I can't see how these parenting classes are supposed to work unless they can be forced on people - even then you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Last night I went to a parents' evening where it wasn't so much the attitude of some pupils which left a lot to be desired - it was the parent of one which explained why the daughter has the attitude she has. A teacher was trying to encourage the girl to improve her attitude to school - the girl's response was "wha'evah!" then the mother started on the teacher, eyes wild and finger wagging and a voice that could have been heard in Rishton - "I dispute her staying back after school! I dispute it! I dispute her being detentioned!" The school is actually offering extra tuition for kids who need it as they approach their GCSEs and this mother sees it as her child being unjustly punished? Tragic isn't it?
