Opportunistic thief warning!
Just a quick warning to any residents of the Peel Park area to make sure they lock their doors securely at night ! My colleague from work forgot to lock her front door after seeing guests off last night and awoke this morning to find that some scumbag had been in the house while she and her fellow lodger slept and robbed them. They got away with 3 mobile phones,2 purses,a handbag, a digital camera and a cash tin with a small amount of money in, they also took both sets of house keys resulting in an expensive change of locks!
The fact that these lowlifes were in the house as the 2 girls slept upstairs is more disturbing than the theft. So if the thoughtless thief happens to be reading this;you are the lowest of the low, facing redundancy is bad enough without you making matters a lot worse, come back tonight my friend and take whats waiting for you;my forward defensive stroke is a bit rusty but I think it will suffice! |
Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
That's just terrible for that to happen Lindsay. More so than the loss of "stuff" the incredible feeling of being violated in a place one should be able to feel must secure!
Do you think it was just happen-stance that the thiefs found the unlocked door or that they had targeted this home in particular? Were the police able to find any evidence against them? Brian |

I pity the scum who try it at my house....they are more than welcome to try but they had better be able to run fast as my 3 dogs will rip them a new backside... |

Pmsl @ the dogs giving the crim a new improved slimmer arse but can imagine that would end up in dangerous dogs section typically:rolleyes: |
Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
The Police think it's just some opportunistic goon trying doors till he /they find one open.Thankfully I had remembered to lock up last or it could have been me ! The stuff taken would seem to indicate a quick "in and out" job ,small stuff that fits inside jackets etc.

Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
There's some bas*ards out there
Again, as has already been said property can be replaced, it's the violation of your own home. |

Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
:) I think its still a decent area, these crimes can happen anywhere, I'm in my 30's but when I was younger you could leave your door open too, its just times have changed, not implying your old Mel (I've no idea what your age is):)

Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
It doesn't really matter where you live. The thieves could come from anywhere. It's horrible thinking that someone has been in the house, especially while the occupant is asleep.

Scum bags. hope they get what they deserve.
But a good warning all the same, as most insurers will not pay out for theft if there is no sign of force or violent entry. One reason why I like the yale lock. |
Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
As a bloke of mature years I regularly get up during the night and have often heard someone try my door. It doesn’t bother me anymore and if I do hear someone I switch on the lobby light to show that someone is up and about.
Being aware that I do forget things now and again I have a routine before going to bed and if I don’t follow it exactly it nags at me in the head as I lay down my sleepy head and stops me from going to sleep. My routine? The washroom, which includes the toilet, is but a yard away from my front and only door. The very last thing that I do before actually getting into bed is to attend the toilet and as I do so I check that the door is locked. It always is because during twilight time I lock it or during those long summer evenings the door gets locked around 7:00pm. |
Re: Opportunistic thief warning!
One tale that amused me was, a mate of mine bought a fancy house on Queens Road Accy, it used to be a vicars residence and was famous for being 'screwed'. Behind the back door was the 'under the stairs bit' where the meters etc were situated, he put an old fireproof safe he'd picked up for a fiver in it, it didn't even have a key,one would be thief broke his toe trying to pinch it, then the succsessful ones chucked it in the canal and it sruck out for all the world to see, complete with all their fingrerprints.
