well i know that they are doing a lot of spot checks at the moment.

Ginger got pulled in tother night for one!! He had only just had his Taxi M.O.T the day before......so nothing wrong with his car..

But some taxi's are clearly un-roadworthy and I hope they get pulled in.

It would be difficult to check all the taxis as there are to many.

Seems a bit a of a high stat though 3/4.

highly believable , i doint think i have seen a taxi with both headlights working for years and teh sods either dont havve working indicators or too damn lazy to use them

this also applies to normal motorists too though but yes i would think the majority of taxis wouldnt pass a GENUINE mot

SUPPOSED to be yes but i bet ime not the opnly person to hear of gararges passing anything especialy for peopel they know

teh way they check these mot stations shoud be changed

insopectors shoud pull up cars after they have been passed after they have driven away and test them there and then and if caught passing unfit cars have his buisness shut down with imidiate effect

Then a Indepentant Company should be used to MOT the vehicle's one, the council has approved, appointed.

I know they are Hot when it comes to insurance at HBC.

I haven't seen the paper but noticed the headlines outside the paper shop. As an ex taxi driver and owner, I am curious as to whether they are talking about taxis or private hire vehicles.

Down south there are extremely stringent checks done on taxis (hackney carriages) and they can fail a test merely on dirty interiors or exteriors. Most areas also confine the age of a taxi to 5 years old or less BUT private hire vehicles do not have to conform to the same standard.

Having been out of the business for a number of years, I do not know if the same rules apply in Lancashire.......but I would guess they would :)

I have yet to see a taxi driver with his badge on prominent display about his person, when I was on the club committee I would not let them enter to collect fares, unless the went back for their badge ( usually behind the sun visor), you have no idea who is driving the taxi or if they are insured otherwise, and it's no use saying you will sue them if an accident occurs ,you'll never find them after the event.

That is a very good point.

I have heard that if you where to suspect a taxi driver was'nt insured to drive the vehicle, he cannot charge you for the ride.

used to drive a hackney early 80s in accy, to actually get the license was stricter, as opposed to private hire,as busman will probably be aware. the checks on the hackney where far more stringent up here also, which used to cause great annoyance, but at least they were safe. i have never understood WHY it should not be similar for Private Hire:confused: but it wasn,t.

This is an issue that is down to the local council to get to grips with.. its the council who give out the licences.
