Catholic Church not all bad
A jump from another thread , where the Catholic Church has come under some criticism for its stance on adoptions by Gay parents
Came accross this story where a Catholic Hospice as gone out of its way to help a young disabled lad pop his cherry. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.../nvirgin27.xml though I wonder what the reaction would have been if he had been gay     |

Re: Catholic Church not all bad
It doesn't actually say that she helped him either, more like she didn't stand in his way and try to stop him. She didn't actively discourage him but neither did she actively encourage him. Although she does say that she is there to offer him emotional support she didn't exactly go out and pay for a prostitute for him.

I also find it rather sad that the young man in the article has not found a loving relationship. I know of someone similar who has, and is now married and the proud father of two lovely, lively, boisterous children. |
Re: Catholic Church not all bad
It would have been a lot less messing about if the nun had given him one instead.

can i just say something about the catholic church?
my gran and grandad where catholic, my mum was catholic, my sister and her husband and kids are catholic, i went to enquire about reece being baptised and i got a huge NO!! all because i aint catholic, although my sis n bother-in-law where to be reece's god parents, the father said i couldnt get him baptised because it has to come from me, after that i lost all my faith in the church....surely it has to start somewhere?....pathetic |

Wait until its school choosing time. when the faith of your child can help or reduce the chance of them getting into your choosen school. |

(point of reference - christening is when the parent offers their child to god, baptism is when a person offers themselves i.e. an older person who has never been christened). Catholic priests tend to believe that if you're not a catholic yourself then the only reason you're doing it is to get your child into a catholic school and not because you want to dedicate them to god. |

After our conversation about this shaz I was thinking ...... have you approached the Fathers of the church's that your family are known to? I know I used the term 'shop around' but some Priests have moved forward more than others. Ian's dad is a practicing catholic and attends St Marys every Sunday etc. but Father Bourke wouldn't baptise ours because Ian isn't a practicing catholic but Father Walsh from Sacred Heart would. Have you considered catholicism yourself or is that just a no go? If it means that much to you that you want Reece brought up catholic don't give up after an altercation with just one Priest there is many more out there that would be glad to baptise him. |
Re: Catholic Church not all bad
I wonder if the church would have also help him if he was gay, and wanted to have sex with a man?
Or bisexual, and wanted a man and a woman at the same time!:D |
