Are you content?

Recently i have been thinking how i have a lot in my life i would like to change, more so than in previous years.
Someone i used to live with pointed out how i was happy with what i had a couple of years ago (which was actually less than i have now)and now im always wanting different to what i have got.
Sometimes i think maybe its my age, but mostly the reason is because i feel i have little control over how things turn out for me.Maybe im wrong.
I have started to take action/or looking into the things i can change, that i have not achieved in the past few years due to various reasons.Such as learning to drive (i saved £500 for lessons and ended up buying a pram-i suppose its a set of wheels  ).
Doing stage two in sign language-i passed stage one when i was 14,and although intended to do stage 2 at 15-i didn't cos i left home.
These plus a few more have been on my mind all week-so about time i did something about it me thinks(if circumstances allow me).

So was wondering are you lot content?
Do you go through phases?
Or is it really just my age?
Please-no smutty comments

Be happy with what you have and it sounds like you are feeling sorry for your self

MissP, reading your post I can't help thinking that you are not sexually satisfied.
Maybe it's time you took Rindy up on his offer of showing you what a real man can do for you. I am sure he must be able to find you one from somewhere  :D

Re: Are you content?

Oh I used to be so frustrated at my lack of direction in life and had only myself to blame .... until I heard Baz Lurhman lyrics in Sunscreen and thought "hey he's right him" :)

Dont feel guilty if you dont know what to do with your life...the most
interesting people I know didnt know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still dont.

Now I'm just content to go from one mad idea to another. Yes I'd like to have more money, having lots of money seems to offer more oppurtunities but doesn't guarantee a contented life.

I didn't mean it to sound like that at all-in fact im quite positive about the fact i feel i can change things to achieve a better life for me and my son.
Some people will never have the resources to do the same.
I feel it is possible to be happy with 'what you have' as you put it but still try and get more out of life.

i think i'm content with being who i am, i couldnt ever see me trying to put an act on to please someone else, i'm content with the fact that i only have one child, ive never wanted anymore, money isnt everything, but laughing is,if i couldnt make at least one person a day smile then i'd just have to give up :D

In a single word YES.

Re: Are you content?

I think once i have thought it over for a while i will have the same idea as you Tinks *currently downloading sunscreen on limewire*
I thought money would pop up soon-it seems to be the stem of all the things i would like to change, as well as most other people.
Flashy-i agree,as alot of people know on here i only want one child and am more than happy with the lad i was blessed with.
And laughter is the best medicine-except for aching legs after alcohol :)
been looking it up and apparently alcohol is linked to gout-something laughter wont help!

Re: Are you content?

I'm quite happy & content. I do however have my off days, but then i just try to think of positive thing.

i.e.

I don't have a car - but there's a bus stop outside.
I work long hours - but at least I'm working.

Life's too short to worry about every little thing. Keep smiling, & seize every opportunity that comes your way.

:D

If you don't plan your life out a bit then you will end up with it passing you by. The more you plan it out the more sod's law kicks in and pees on your bonfire. Take your pick :D

Re: Are you content?

I'm happy with who I am, where I am and what I've got but that doesn't stop me from making goals, having plans and dreams.

Just drifting through each day would be quite boring without something to aspire to but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the here and now.

I suppose that sounds like a bit of a contradiction but it isn't meant to be.

Am I content with my lot?

A resounding yes.

Luck played a little part, in that I think I had good parents and a great upbringing. The rest of the cards life dealt me, I think I played well...and am magnanimous as a a winner.:D

Hey kitty, thanks for the thread. I think "tadah" was a bit harsh on you. Feeling sorry for oneself or just reaching out for answers, IMO that's what we're all suppposed to be here for eh?

Overall, I find myself very content with life.

Do I have ups and downs, much more than I'd like.

I believe aging definitely has an impact on one being content!

Be content with what you have. Like Granny says there is always somebody worse off.
My Dad was always using the saying " What you have never had you never miss."
Don't take what you do have for granted.

I is never to late to change things, never wait for circumstances to allow you to do it, do no not become an 'if only' person (if only I had done that) or a 'nearly person' (I was giong to do or nearly did that.) As Kipling wrote in his verse.'IF' "If you can meet with triumph and disaster and recognise them for the imposters that they are" there is no difference between success and failure, it is good health and happiness that count in life.

Hear,hear!
Although surely being Healthy and Happy comes from being successful?just in a different way than what springs to mind when we say the word 'successful'?(when i asked my friends they said climbing the social and career ladder was the first thing they thought of).
Keeping jack healthy and happy surely means i am being a successful parent?

entwisi 30-01-2007 13:04

Re: Are you content?

Successful in what context? To achieve what you set out to do makes you successful, that may be living off teh land or ruinning a multinational conglomerate, each to their own but equally successful.

I guess if you reach a platform where you no longer feel the need to strive for anything more[1] then you should consider yourself content and successful. Life is only what you want from it. anymore is a pure bonus

[1] that doesn't mean if it comes knocking you should turn it away!

Re: Are you content?

I suppose I'm pretty content, but for me that isnt always a good thing. I am always looking for something new, some new challenge. At the moment am looking at changing jobs - have no idea why as I love my job and the company I work for. Unfortuately I seem to get into the idea of "the grass is always greener". If I'm comfortable for too long I get fed-up and look for changes. Not always a good thing!

Re: Are you content?

Your probably feeling like this because of the time of year, January and February can be the most depressing months, just think in a few weeks it'll be Spring, in fact driving through the countryside a weekend I saw a field full of LAMBS - so Spring is just round the corner

ShortStuff 30-01-2007 19:35

Re: Are you content?

Although I am happy with everything I have in life, I wouldn't say that I am content. There is always something I want that seems just out of reach - but as soon as I actually achieve/reach my goal, I want something else!

You don't sound like you're feeling sorry for yourself to me, it sounds like you are making positive decisions to get more out of your life - and there's nothing wrong with that. Content sounds a bit boring to me!!!

Re: Are you content?

I was very unhaappy at a certain birthday a couple of years ago as I felt I hadn't accomplished anything.
Now however the only thing that has changed is I have more security in that I own my house, and have 2 wonderful daughters to add to the 4 brilliant stepchildren, I have less money than then, I find I am working more but every night after I have put the kids to bed I look back on the day and think "I wouldn't swap this for the world".

So yes I am content.

But as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, it might just come true :)

Yes I am. I have everything I ever wanted, a wonderful husband, a beautiful daughter, a roof over my head, a job and food on the table. What more could I ask for.

Great mindset buttonsmum!:) Cindy has the same over here but with 2 beautiful kids. In addition, I believed she'd add sweet and sensitive to some of her husband's many impressive qualities!:D
