Nearly over

January that is, how I hate January it goes on and on and on:

Can't wait for Spring and light nights again:

January seems to have gone very quickly to me. Maybe it's a sign of getting old - or just that I have so many things I still haven't done!

magpie 28-01-2007 21:11

Re: Nearly over

it is getting a bit lighter in the mornings now: wishing my life away here :-)

Re: Nearly over

I love the winter period, both for the weather and the fact that life seems to slow down so much during that time. As a homesteder, spring, summer, and fall are so busy. This time of year I can kinda pace myself and get alot of "stuff" done inside. Come on winter give us your best!!:)

Re: Nearly over

I love all the seasons, life would be so much poorer for the lack of them as each one performs it's own particular function, one to cleanse ,one to rest, one to grow and one to reap and sow. I'm sorry to see any of them pass, as with advancing years they become shorter in supply. So please do not wish your life away there aint enough of it :D.

Re: Nearly over

It defeinately getting light at night. I leave work at 4 and normally get home by 5:15. After Xmas it was dark when I left work, now I'm nearly home by the time its getting dark.

Mornings are still taking an age to lighten up though

I cant seem to make up what I prefer:rolleyes: , when its winter, i long for summer because im sick of all the wet dark damp nights!
but when it is summer, I long for the early dark rainy nights:rolleyes: ,probably beacuse in summer it is harder to get the kids to bed!
or its because its too hot and i cant sleep at night, im never happy....lol at the moment I want SUMMER:D:Banane28:

I don't really come alive until after they change the clocks. I'm not bothered about it being hot, but I do like bright sunny skies.

Sara 30-01-2007 20:24

Re: Nearly over

I'm like you Margaret can't wait until they change the clocks. It's the dark mornings i find harder to cope with then the dark evenings. Roll on Spring.

But my crocuses are already out with the snowdrops, a petunia is showing its flowers and the boids choip in my garden, if you can call that wilderness a garden. I think that they came out in sympathy with the BA cabin crew.

The robin, who seems to think that the garden is his, goes around bullying all the other birds whilst a bemused squirrel rushes along the fence heading for next door’s bird tray to nick all the nuts. I’ve seen a bumble bee today.

So it is spring in my wasteland.

jambutty 31-01-2007 12:09

Re: Nearly over

Sadly, overnight some yobbo broke through my fence and pulled up some of the crocuses, the petunia and some snowdrops and left them lying in a heap on the flags. It wasn’t an animal of some sort because the evidence was in a heap. An animal would have spread the uprooted plants all over. I’ve put them back in place but only the petunia has a chance of recovering to flower later on. The growth in the crocuses and snowdrops will die away and with a bit of luck the bulbs will survive to come up next year. Mindless vandalism!

I should add that although my garden is more like the grasslands of Africa it is edged with breeze blocks between it and the building and the holes in the breeze blocks are filled with soil into which I planted the various bulbs and plants last autumn.

grannyclaret 31-01-2007 13:49

Re: Nearly over

Oh thats sad jambutty,,why do people do these mindless things,,,
We too have buds sprouting all over,, they are only in pots though..we dont have a garden,,but theres dafodils and loads of crocuses...i planted some snowdrops, but theres none yet... yep winter is on the run at last....:)
