Can you really get something for nothin...
a close family member phoned me this morning to inform me he was buying me a rather large purchase - a car
i was telling my my sis this and she said well i'm sure he'll expect something back in the future... so it got me thinking do you really get something for nothing or is there always a catch? |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
I would worry if someone wanted to buy me something like that. I'd be thinking "What's the catch?"
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
nowts for free in this world,
if someone offered to buy me a car i would ask why?!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
thing is this guy is loaded. so its not as if he's scrimping to buy me this. he recently sold one of his businesses and he's going through the tax man to buy me this car - so its money he wasnt going to have anyway
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Depends who the family member is, Father, Brother? Have they come upon some unexpected financial luck (a lottery win etc.) that they'd like to share with close relatives? Have you seen the car yet? It might be a robin reliant! :D

Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
its my step bro. the car he's told me over the phone is a brand new avensis 2.2 on a 06 plate
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Grab it and run and if it turns out there are strings attached, give it back.
In the meantime enjoy its use. |

So he's buying this claiming it's a company car is he? Also reclaiming the VAT as a business purchase? Very interesting............. |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
if you dont want it tell him ill have it! :D:D
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
there is kind people mani, just wish they where in my family.;) dont think about is there a catch. and if it turns out there is one,my stock answer is WHO ARE YOU.:D
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Sounds like you'll either have a brand new car for free or the taxman will be knocking on someone's door soon. Just make sure that step=bro tells you it all OK and get it IN WRITING for your defence if it goes to court!!!!!

Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
*L*
i do work for him too he owns a old folks home near eccles to which i look over so the high mileage on my car is due to him this is one of those shud've kept my mouth shut moments... *groan* cash - exactly i thought that. i mean my step bro has been a lil shady in the past - his rep in the family due to his past behaviour hasnt been too good but in hte last few yrs i think his gears finally engaged and he has been on very good terms with us. |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Blooming hell i soo wish i had family members that want to lavish that amount on me:eek:
.................yeh i would actually ask what the catch was:rolleyes::D But sadly not a reality that happens to me in any sence other than i get catches for free:D |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
then the car is for tax purpose and you need to be careful with your tax returns or else they'll be after you and not him.

|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...

|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Sounds good.
Who will own the car? Legally Who will insure the Car? |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
hmmm good questions d
i just presumed it wud b me but who knows i'll ask him :$ |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
The reason why I asked.
You cannot personally insure a vehicle unless its owned by you or you are legally responsable for the vehicle. If he will sort insurance out for you aswell then your laughing.:) |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
mr d - not so
there's insurers out there that will for an extra insure u on vehicles not owned by you etc |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
I believe you can get things from people with no expectations from them for a return. So many folks give things out of the kindness of their hearts. This sometimes out of their plenty but also those with very little giving to those with even less.
Because of this kindness, many times they receive from others but that wasn't the reason they gave something for nothing! As for companies and or businesses, not at all likely they ever give away total freebies (IMO)! Brian |

As the car is a 06 TPO cover would be silly. IMO Or are reffering to a motor trade policy? |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
no
on a private policy - go to confused.com and put in some random details etc and where it says who the owner is and the person named on papers etc put soemthing else down and then submit for a quote |

It would also limit the companies that will cover you and more than likely end up with a lloyds syndiate company. If you where to go down that route, just make sure its known prior to cover being accepted and all's well. PS - Dont always trust the internet.;) |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...

i love the internet - dont say that about my lovechild!! :( there's even companies that will insure u for a few days should ur mate be happy to lend u his ferrari for the weekend... |

|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
I'd just say thankyou Mani, especially as you do a lot of miles working for him.

Yes there are companies that will cover you for one to twenty eight days. They have a Large Excess, usually £500.00 minimum and normally limited to groups 1-17 cars. |
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Is it going to be classed as a company car because you work for him and need it for the job? That would sound reasonable.
|
Re: Can you really get something for nothin...
Mani , have you thought that maybe ,the Oscar Wilde and Beavis signatures you have been using could have anything to do with the offer
;) ;) |
