Suicide Leap

Today I was driving in the tiny winding lanes between West Bradford and Waddington. I was in a 40 ft coach which took up most of the road so I was naturally cautious

Suddenly, rounding a corner, I saw her.........she was standing on the top of a wall and was very unbalanced, her friend joined her and I realised that they both intended to throw themselves under the wheels of my coach.........

I eased up even more on the throttle and sure enough, when I was just a few metres from them, they jumped from the wall, legs peddling away in free air until they landed right in front of me.

Because of my low speed, I was able to stop in time, they recovered from their jump, shook themselves and trotted down the side of the coach to disappear into the distance................:bleedht:

For a few seconds, visions of Sunday lunch came to mind as I watched the two sheep pass by in my rear view mirror..........and then I wondered, Who else has had a close call with animals in the road? anyone?:D

 BUSMAN!!!!! :)

Thankfully I've never actually hit an animal but I've had a few cats that must have a death wish running in front of the car.

....or perhaps they were friends of that dog, who apparently committed suicide by jumping off the Panoptican in Blackburn.;)

once hit a flock of pidgeons going to work at 5-00 in morning.was coming past bulloghs under the railway bridge to Blackburn rd. they were in the road and as i approached slowly flew up, then to my astonishment the dumb gets flew back down to the road------ too late, about 7/8 dead birds. it was weird - like they were doped or summat cos it all seemed to happen in slow motion. luckily the car was ok,just a few scratches etc.

We once killed a Wood Pigeon, driving near to Stone Henge.

I like to think we made a sacrifice to the Druids.

Dag, that was cold busman!

I've had a couple of stupid deer run into the side of my truck (the smart ones stand in the road hoping you'll veer off into a tree!) Also have come around an icy corner to see a cow standing in the middle of the road.

Finally, driving home one night found a guy with a flashlight driving ~20 cows down the road back to their pasture. I assisted with the round-up by honking my horn to get the stupid beasts to move a bit faster!

i was goin over the tops from blackburn to the m66 and it was november time and foggy as hell.i had full beams and i still could barely see a few metres infront of me.

a few cars went opposite way from me flashing i thought must be a cop car ahead so i slowed down slightly

then all of a sudden those damn suicidal sheep came infront of my car - i slammed on the brakes and thankfully didnt hit them. they'd got out of the field and decided they wanted to be lamb bhuna

i cudnt believe how they managed to survive i thought thats it - must've been inches away

I took a group of bikers from all over the country on a rideout round the Lakes and Ribble Valley. Coming through the Trough we came round a corner and nearly took out about 9 or 10 pheasants. One of the funniest signs I've seen was a "beware of the pheasants", sort of conjures up some Hitchcock style horror film. :D

Many years ago, I was driving down a very empty road in New Mexico and a deer ran right in front of the car - so fast, in fact, that my buddy in the passenger seat didn't even know what we had hit. Fortunately, I was able to control the skid and not roll the car down the embankment. A lot of sheet metal damage, 2000 miles from home!

Another time, I was driving home on a country road and spotted a deer on the verge between the road and a high fence. There was no time to do anything, but the deer decided not to jump out in front of my old, reliable, very old car. Guess he was waiting for something better, as he was killed by the Jaguar immediately behind me!
