was on bbc northern news tonight- ancient ACCRINGTON BYE_LAW still in force today as follows- if you boil TRIPE in yer house you MUST scrub yer front doorstep it really cracked me up. will be watching for you all in the summer.:rofl38: there was a few other silly ones on for other places. anybody know any DAFTER?

no it didnt willow they just stated a few ODD bylaws from differant places in the northwest. bet our councillors aint aware of em.;)

Another one from Accrington was a bye-law forbidding you to carry an undressed animal carcass through the streets...so think on!

You can't keep pigs in front of your house, Mr C. There was also one forbidding you from beating your carpet in a public park in Bolton and another one from Chester which only allowed you to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow after midnight.

Was an article in the Observer last week Cashman on this, and that some are about to be re-written, sorry, can't find a link, including:-

. Beating Carpets early in the morning.
. Don't loiter at the entrance of any church or chapel
. Leave orange peel, banana skin or other dangerous substances on the footway.
. Street games such as tip-cat (?) should not be played in a way which would cause an obstruction to the traffic.
. no person should spit on the floor, in a public carriage or any place of public entertainment regardless of whether any admission fee was paid.. !"
. No carrying of undressed carcass of any animal or any offensive offal in a public place
. Wilfully jostle or annoy foot passengers.
. Extinguish the light of any lamp.

Guess they all still apply today, except in a different type wording.

i.e. jostling on footpaths .. no mugging pedestrians at any time of day and so on.

Sure you can all find modern wording for the above crimes ... :D
