Busted sign me up.

I see Accrington High School pupils are taking part in an experimental'Grass your mates up scheme'.They will be awarded £20 in mobile phone top ups,to report anyone commiting minor acts of vandalism;such as scratching cars and the like.
If we can extend this to the wider population, say £10 per snitch for spotting drivers using mobile phones whilst driving,I could retire to the sun in a week or two!
Prime targets would be the right handed user holding the phone to his/her left ear whilst negotiating a roundabout and the frustrated make up artist gazing adoringly in the mirror whilst likewise in mobile land(usually women doing this but not always.)
On second thoughts,I would do it for free, after having one or to close encounters with these thoughtless people.

Who thinks of these tin pot ideas, it is open to all kinds of abuse and could easily lead to racial problems. Where is Accrington High School? I thought that was a school for above average IQ girls.

Re: Busted sign me up.

nice idea to impliment in schools i can just see it now

gang of kids target an individual and all say the boy or girl did it and split the reward

as for driving with a mobile phone it was on the news today that soon it will also cary a 3 point punishemnt on your license as well as a fine but realy is there any point because the police simply dont enforce the law we have already and i cant see adding 3 points making a difference

a hanfull of people get fined but i see plenty of traffic cops turn a blind eye to all sorts especialy peopel using phones , failing to indicate , parking on zigzags , parking and nattering at red lights , mind you with the amount of paperwork a cop has to do just for pulling somone over its no wonder they cant be bothered

booster seats - what a bloody joke , anyone with any regard for their childs safety went and bought one but you should see the amount of cars out side school gates with kids stood up between the front sets etc driving off

maybe we should be bribing the police with 10 quid vouchers to actualy catch somone , hey ime not fussy either it would be nice to see them actualy enforcing any traffic law , it took the police 3 years to eventualy pull me over for not wearing a seatbelt

peed on their parade though coz ime exempt :D

perhaps tony blair should employee enough police to enforce the laws we already have before making new ones

and after al that whats teh point in catching a criminal because judges have been told not to punish them

They can punish them - just not send them to jail They might decide to give them a nice stern telling off.

I've reported all manner of things to the police but they don't do anything. They said they have to actually witness it happening - so how come this is going to be any different?

A parent of a Year 10 pupil said: "I don’t think kids should ‘grass each other up’ over petty things such as graffiti on the street corner or something that will not actually do any harm. Kids will be kids.
That says a lot about the attitude of kids who vandalise when a parent sees graffiti as nothing harmful. What about the person whose property is on the receiving end and the cost to them of removing the mess? I wonder if the parent also sees no harm in scratching a few cars? It's still a petty crime but not petty to the car owner.

I do think the idea of informing on other pupils is open to abuse though. What is to stop someone doing something and then claiming they saw someone else do it? Not only do they get off scott free but they get a reward as well. I hope the accusations are properly investigated.

I was also amazed at some of theparents attitudes, it explains a lot of what is wrong in todays society

Mobile phone vouchers ?? What happened to the good old book tokens? Probably spend the 'phone time telling all their other mates what they did.

The use of the word 'mate' is peculiar .. suspect that this will not be the case .. I don't think any law-abiding youngster will be associating with vandalising, graffiti merchants in the first place.

They state hope will work as a deterrent, well, yes, might do this, however, if the perpetrator spots anybody watching them, they will just make sure nobody is around or they will be 'mating out' with kids of similar leanings.

Don't think many of these crimes are pre-planned anyway, just stupid, thoughtless actions that are done on the spur of the moment ... for what ? well, the mind boggles.

Could work occasionally, if one friend sees another about to do something like this and, out of caring for this friend, states that they will report them if they carry on .. so may do some good somewhere down the line. Will be interesting to see the first report.

Precisely Lampman, who would be brave enough to report them as youngsters that commit this sort of crime, will not mind the odd case of assault and battery now and then.

As for the anonymity, hmmm .. too tight a community methinks ..

One of the enterprising ones could make a fortune if littering was included. The mess they leave outside chippies even when bins are available is beyond a joke, that and all the mini jelly babies they buy to throw at each other as a form of ammusment.
